Time for a process video! I’m also working on a process video for a longer painting, but for now, here’s my process for the speedpaint I posted last week. As usual, I drew it in Photoshop with a cintiq tablet! It’s in real time and you can speed it up or slow it down using the gear button!

Here is the final result:

And these are the reference images I used:

With this painting I mainly struggled with getting the texture right. A long time ago, I used to copy/paste texture images into my art as a shortcut, but these days I want to recreate that texture with brushes and the lasso tool, which can be a challenge since I don’t really have any go-to texture brushes. I bought viorie’s brush set a while ago and there are some good ones in there, but I always have to browse through them for a bit before they ‘click’ for me. So you’ll see me experimenting with brushes a bit throughout this process!

My general process for this is very similar to the process in my environments tutorial: getting the main blocks of color down first, adding separate elements one by one, tweaking the colors until they feel right, and then gradually painting in detail. You can find that tutorial here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/tutorial-44069788

If you have any questions about the process, please ask away :) Hope you enjoy this video!

This looks beautiful, Loish! I particularly love it because it looks like my cat who passed away last year (except he didn't have ears). The textures of the house and the trees look wonderful and lively

Hi Loish, thanks for showing us your process. I am particularly interested in your thinking process behind painting in the bit of red hammock in the lower left corner. I would definitely leave it out if I was painting this myself, but it really works here!

Loved this! I could watch you paint all day. :)

Loish, you are by far my favorite creator, thank you for this gem! I was able to watch it without interruption and I picked up on so many tips just by watching you work! Everything seems so instinctive for you, and with practice I hope to be as good. Thank you for the content you have been making <3

This was the first progress vid I watched now after finally becoming a patron and I found it so enjoyable and relaxing to watch. Thank you for sharing!

Loish

glad you liked it julia! thank you so much for the support :)

Loish

thank you! I added it for some perspective and a little bit of color variation. everything was looking a bit too brown/green so I wanted a pop of warm color :)

Loish

so sorry for your loss. I lost my cat 3 years ago and I still think about her every day!

They really leave a lasting impression! My other cat passed 2 months after he did, so 2020 really wasn't a good year haha. My husband told me on Christmas he tried to get a commission of them with you, so I'm just going to pretend this is his indirect gift :P

I joined your Patreon because I saw this image on IG and wanted to see the process video. Wow, what incredible content you have available here! I remember being a huge fan of your artwork on deviantArt like 15 years ago, back in the oekaki days... It's so great to encounter your art again and see how your style has evolved over the years. Anyway, thank you for all of these fantastic resources, I'm glad I finally subscribed!
