Some expression studies! I always wanna go super cartoony when I draw expressions, because I always feel like the more realistic the art gets, the more you get into a kind of uncanny valley zone where the expression is more difficult to read. So with these I wanted to challenge myself to stay in a more realistic zone than I’m comfortable with and see if I can still capture that intensity. Hope you like them!

Your ability to capture feelings always fills me with awe!

whoa there's so much expression in the eyes! Have you thought about doing a tutorial on eyes or a step by step on how you approach them?

This is super helpful especially for things i do now ! Thank you for it!

All are excellent, I particularly like the angry faced young woman one row up from the bottom. Great determination.

Great! Always good to learn expressions.

I love the pouty face! Facial expressions are something I really struggle with because I get lost in wanting it to look accurate and proportional

the weird thing about expressions is the more 'accurate' they get, the less real they feel. at least that's something I've noticed, especially with hyper realistic animation and games. they're definitely not easy to get right!

I'm totally obsessed with your sketches at the moment. I'm really struggling to be happy with anything I'm drawing right now. I'm coming from a fine art background and really want my sketches to become more stylised. I'll just keep practising until my hands fall Off

thanks jill! I've been there before.. it's hard to not like what you see. the main thing that helped me is setting time limits and forcing myself to push the shapes a bit further than my comfort zone. many sketch sessions full of frustration were had! you will get there! :)

I always find it difficult to stylized a laugh or a smile ; With the face "line" in the side of the mouth and the nose (who kind of connect them), it easily make a "too realistic" look to the face... So it's nice and inspiring to see your study ! It's inspiring ! Thank you :)

yes, exactly this! the more wrinkles and lines you add, the more you get this weird effect that doesn't feel unified with the stylized look. I'm glad you like this :)
