Some of you may have spotted the commission I did for Procreate! They posted this drawing last week to announce the new update to Procreate 5.

Here’s the timelapse video of that painting for you guys! You can watch it in 4K quality if you like - just click on the gear button to choose which quality you’d like to watch it at. It starts kinda messy because I made multiple sketches within this file before finalizing this one.

I’ll also post a step-by-step that breaks down the overall process of this painting into basic steps, so you can see what I was aiming for throughout the video! If you're not sure what's going in, then the step-by-step can be a nice guide to clarify the process and tools a bit. You can find it here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/41936401

Finally, I recorded the process of making the rough b&w thumbnails for this commission with a phone (so you can see my hands while I draw), and I talk about my ideation & sketching process while working on them. I’m still editing and preparing that video but it will be finished in a week or two! Here's a little screenshot:

Hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at this commission! Oh, and for those who haven’t seen it yet, there’s a post on which brushes I use here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/step-by-step-i-34615265

Lois!! <3 I'm SO happy to see you share your process for this piece. I instantly recognized it when I saw the promo for Procreate and it's absolutely gorgeous. I hope you're doing well and enjoying the autumn vibes. (I'm very much enjoying the art vibes you send our way every time, so it's total perfection). Thank you for sharing all of your awesomeness, as always <3

Thank you for sharing the process! I gasped when I saw it on the Procreate video! It was so interesting to see you experiment with different versions of the drawing, changing the shape of the face and the background details. The final version looked so beautiful!

Loish

haha yes this one had a lot of trial and error to it! it was frustrating at times but it always is when trying out new techniques.

This was insanely helpful, along with the breakdown tutorial. I love how much it transformed throughout the process. It makes me feel less bad about making changes as I go from the original idea I had haha.

thank you for showing this!! It's so crazy how many various versions you went through!

This is so beautiful, and can't wait to hear about the ideation process and what sort of things they asked for!

Love seeing the process!! It’s fun to see how many changes it goes through. The end result is so beautiful 😍 how long does something like this usually take you? Can’t wait for the next video.

Loish

this one took me quite a while because I was really searching for the right colors and then did a lot of tweaks towards the end! according to my canvas statistics on proreate, it was 17.5 hours in total.

This is so interesting to watch! Did you become any kind of feedback from procreate during the process or did you only show them the final piece?

Loish

yes i got a lot of feedback! i sent them the rough thumbnails, the rough color version, and did multiple iterations of the final. most of the feedback was about pushing the colors of the flowers and making other areas of the painting a bit more soft / less extreme.

Interesting and thanks for your answer! It really helps knowing how you work with clients :)

Beautiful! Watching the ideas develop and change and then the color palette develop with shape changes was fascinating!

This is so beautiful I can’t even express it in words! Your process is so interesting, you are a goddess of digital paiting, thank you for sharing with us! 💕

This video was amazing to watch. The parts I most enjoyed, besides the final result, was that you left in the early drafts. I have one of your books, and I watch your tutorials, and I still have a long way to go, but you're a great inspiration for me. Now, if I could just get hair to look as amazing and voluminous as you do without straight up copying you...

Loish

thanks so much brad! copying is often the first stage of figuring out how to make something work :) it's how I learned what I know now!

Hi Loish, wish to know what software do you use to screen record your iPad process or is it the inbuilt procreate timeplapse feature only?
