Here are some head studies based on stock photos from sketchdaily! I was trying out a more angular approach on the facial features, so that they feel more 3-dimensional. I tend to soften the features a lot so it was a challenge to kind of go against my nature! Hope you enjoy these!

Hello! I joined just recently and I have been seeing just your latest posts - would you say that now you use the lasso tool in most of your drawings? what are your thoughts about it? I see that you used it for organic things and it made sense to me, but I have the impression you also used it in these portraits - does it help simplify? does it speed up the process? I am asking because I never use it and I have the impression it might be not too precise and time consuming... but then I see your images and instead they look great :)

i am definitely using the lasso tool in most of my drawings now! I used it to block in the colors for these as well. it definitely helps to create more interesting shapes and quickly lay down the colors. and it definitely speeds up the process too. for me personally it just saves a lot of time because it helps me think in shapes / planes rather than lines and brushstrokes!

thanks for your answer! I will definitely try it out! :D

love them actually! I kinda wonder what I'd look like in your style. Man, I want to draw faces too now! But I have some environment sketches I gotta work out first (I spend waaay to long on those haha). Keep up the lovely work Loish! Gives me a good boost to paint everytime :)

I'm new in patreon dear Losih, I've been having trouble for male sketching, and some details for heads, I'm doing it traditional, but practicing every time I can :D... Will you make a video of the process for male features and difference with female features ?

Loish

that is an excellent topic for a future tutorial! for now all i can recommend is drawing from reference - just do a lot of studies and try to observe as much as you can! a lot of the differences we perceive to be 'feminine' or 'masculine' tends to be cultural, we think of women as soft and round and men as angular. so using a more angular approach for male faces is usually a simple shorthand for making it appear more masculine.
