Can't believe April flew by so fast! Something about this lockdown lifestyle is turning time into a blur. How are you guys doing? Are you still hanging in there? Here's how April went for me:

GETTING OUT OF THE COMFORT ZONE

I’ve gotten back to doing animal studies and environments which I’m really enjoying. I haven’t had much space to get out of the comfort zone in the last years so it’s great to be able to do that now and delve back into the learning process! I’m especially excited about the environment pieces, since I haven’t done environments that aren’t studies in a while. I’m so excited to start finalizing the thumbnails!

FILMING FROM HOME

This was my first time filming from home! It was a bit difficult getting the setup to work, but I actually found it quite relaxing to film from my bedroom. It all just felt more natural and casual - as a result I ended up talking even more than I usually do and I think it’s my longest sketchbook tour yet. As with all of this work-from-home stuff, it’s quite an adjustment but there are some hidden perks and upsides that I didn’t expect!

GETTING YOUR FEEDBACK

I’ve been posting thumbnail variations in the Patreon feed and asking for your feedback on which one is working best. This is something I’ve almost never done before outside of client work, but it’s really awesome to get your input and ideas on the art. Hearing different perspectives and suggestions really motivates me and helps me come up with new ideas and inspiration. This is something I had no idea I was missing from my life, but I’m so happy that I started doing it. Thanks so much to everyone who gave feedback and pointers!

Thanks everyone who is sticking around for this month too! Your support means a lot to me and I can't wait to create and share it all with you. Stay safe!! ❤

It's MerMay time too! :D

Loish, thank you as usual for making your Patreon a unique and informative spot. It's nice to see it not just be a precursor to Instagram posts and I really appreciate what you do, and love supporting you. I had a question, for animal studies during covid times, I'm assuming you're resorting to images online. I've been taking gesture/figure drawing classes for 2 years now (humans) and would like to try my hand at some animals now-a-days. While I can find my own images online, do you have a suggestion for anything? Suggestions for drawing animals in the gesture stage?

I agree with everything @scott says above! Your Patreon has been the biggest thing that’s been motivating me to learn to draw. I think I’m understanding now what I want to do with my art and where I want it to go!

With April, i started my online classes at the university, so I've been busy, but always had some time to do some sketches and paintings. Also, it feels like i have learned a lot his month, specially been here and using all the knowledge you gave to us all months!. Soo...as same as you, it's been a month of improvement and growth (step by step of course)

Yeah I really enjoy being able to give you feedback on your art before you go further with the thumbnails. I feed off the collaborative process too. Being quarantined sucks. But I kinda got off easy during this time. I had to move from Orlando, Florida to Oklahoma and find a new apartment with my fiancé witch has been a blast, also got to catch up with family. I think many people in the world actually got a break that they needed and that’s at least something to be thankful for. Keep up the hard work, Lois! Your ascension to legendary status is crazy to witness, and you even managed to do it part time in your bedroom. Talk about living the dream.

Loish

thanks so much! that's a good point, some people could use that break right now. i had a really abormally busy phase of my life before this all went down so i'm glad i got the most out of it while i still could. hang in there!

Loish

that's awesome! i'm glad you're enjoying the content :)

Loish

i'm so happy to hear that! seriously, it warms my heart.

i've honestly just been using google search results as a loose reference haha. i'm sure there are better sources out there but for now, google images do the trick for me.
