For those of you who haven’t seen my second artbook, The Sketchbook of Loish, here is some art from one of the chapters called Departure! Because the book was focused on rough work and my creative process, I wanted to develop a story concept exclusively for the book. This way, I could show how I use sketches and rough developmental work to visualize an idea. I started with the simple idea of a character on a journey, and the rest grew from there! So these are the sketches and rough ideas that resulted. I will post my sketchbook tour today as well, which contains the sketch that kickstarted the idea. Hope you like these!

yes! I loved these :) The plants and trees are so awesome, and such great story telling here! Have you thought about making this into a graphic novel or comic?

Both of your books are incredible and love them SO much. Thanks for sharing these, Lois! Also, when can we expect a third book addition? <3

I love this idea so much! So many possibilities here with a woman on a journey through a magical landscape. Would love to see this developed even further. Also, the pops of red on that first one are just masterful.

thank you! i have to say that i don't feel confident in my abilities to create stories, so i haven't really thought about making it into a comic. i just need more substance to the story and that's something i struggle with a lot!

I loved this project so much! You've mentioned you don't feel confident making it a full on story and I'm not sure you need to; I still found myself falling into this world you created regardless. If you ever have the urge to flesh out a whole art of book of a world like this with no narrative I would definitely have time for that.

I do have your book. And these are awesome. I'm still in love with these scenes

Yay!! I can't wait to get an email from 3D total about this. Super excited! Totally random, but I was watching a Proko video the other day and your second book was sitting casually on the table between Stan and Marshall. Love supporting you but love it even more when artists support each other like that. Keep well and stay safe, Lois. Thank you for all you do.<3

@Loish, thank you for showing this. I'm teaching myself (through tutorials and videos) about landscape drawings (your videos were awesome btw). Is it ok if I take my "loish" studies of landscapes and post them on IG with giving you credit and tagging you?
