Here’s the process for my 1000 patrons piece! It’s sped up about 5x, and the total process took about 2.5 hours. I think this drawing is a good example of my ‘fast’ drawing process: moving very quickly from sketch to color and adding details at the very end. This way, I can just wing it and see where the drawing takes me - I don’t have to plan or think too much in the early stages.

TIP // HB PENCIL BRUSH

As usual with my sketching process, I used the Macalabs HB pencil brush which you can get here (it’s $5): http://cbr.sh/fg8up?ref=loish I love this brush and I use it for almost every drawing! It helps me give the drawing more movement. You can see how important that is in my process video: not just getting the lines of the character, but also construction and movement lines to give the character life! If I set the brush to a low flow, it creates a softer look which can be great in the early stages of constructing the drawing. Towards the end, I also use this brush to add some final details, especially in the hair. For this drawing I really wanted to capture movement and energy, which this brush is great for.

COLOR PROCESS

As for the color choices, I chose that were very close in range (warm reddish-brown tones) as my starting point. Then I branched out from there by using the color editing tools to gradually change the color scheme as I went. I also really like using the feathered lasso tool to introduce some more color variation. Basically, I select the lasso tool and adjust the feather value on top. Using that, I can make a ‘soft selection’ and adjust the colors inside the selected area only. I think it’s a great tool to create subtle and gentle color variations.

I hope you like the video and let me know if you have any questions about my process!

Watching these videos is fascinating. Do you always save detail until the end or does it depend entirely on the piece you're creating? Congratulations on 1000 patrons! It's so well deserved. :)

thanks so much!! I almost always use this technique. It just allows me to feel more free. otherwise i'll get stuck/disappointed early on!

I usually draw from the imagination! although for this one I did check some reference of people jumping, just to get the energy I was looking for.

Thank you for sharing! You are incredibly talented 😊 other than the HB brush you mentioned, is there any other brushes you use in your paintings? Or do you use the HB for all the colouring as well? So inspired by you and your art! ❤️

Loish

thanks so much! I use the HB for sketching and for the coloring just a hard round one.
