Here’s a remake that I haven’t gotten around to colorizing. Not sure If I will get around to doing that, as the bright red and turquoise color scheme is a difficult one to apply to a b&w sketch. We’ll see!

I remember how so liked her when I first saw her on the Deviantart. And I still do! IAM very curious how the new one will look in colors. I liked the turquoise red s heme a lot!

Huh, with the way I tackle black and white the initial steps to get turquoise and a cool reddish/pinkish color actually went really well. I was leaning hard on Procreate’s color harmony picker, but the complement of my usual palette’s pinks is very similar to the turquoise in your original. No clue how I’d get human looking skin tones worked in, but I’m more worried about getting the socks red enough...

Aloha, Loish This may be one of the strangest emails you’ve received but let me give you a bit of background to show that I am credible. I am an 81 year old (true!) watercolor painter and teacher from the so-called Big Island (Hawaii Island). I have followed computer graphics ever since I worked for Microsoft on the mainland about fifteen years ago.I have an old copy of Photoshop CS5 and a new copy of Krita and I am working on using them for art. I came across you and Djamila and others on Twitter, then followed on Patreon. You work is outstanding and I study it closely to see how you develop the paintings. Your color sense is excellent. Now, with that background, here is the question that has been puzzling me: Why do you, and a group of other very skillful artists focus on a certain type of stylized female figure? Is it the market? Is it more enjoyable? Anime? Something else? Just my simple curiosity. That’s the sort of guy I am. Of course, you are under no obligation to reply. Thank you for taking time for this relatively long note. Greg Schultz, Waikoloa, Hawaii

hey greg! for me, it's because it's what I enjoy drawing the most. my main inspirations that motivated me to draw when I got started were disney princesses and alfonse mucha, plus some other artists who were drawing beautiful female figures. I love art with female characters, and I love to draw them too. I do want to challenge myself and learn to draw a variety of things, but I also like to go back into my comfort zone too - for me, drawing is a lot about enjoyment and relaxation. hope that answers your question!

Loish

hmm, thanks for the insights! might try it in procreate. my process for adding color was in photoshop this time around.

Loish

thanks! same here, i still really like that color scheme. idk why, it just brings me back to childhood or something.

Loish

thanks! I tried to put a bit more personality in their body shapes and features in the new versions. my old characters were all more or less the same in that regard.

Warm thanks for your reply. And congratulations on reaching 1000 patrons. I look forward to the 2K mark!

I will honestly say that this is a nice idea for checking your skills, checking what progress was made between the periods, for example when they started to draw ...what I said above is about me....you a great artist and teacher :) , and a lots people here they are good either well done everybody.....so out of curiosity I will try to sketch one of my characters from my sketchbook again .. I want to see if I have made any progress ...drawing makes me happy and it is so fun no matter what level I am.......thank you :)

Loish

It's been cool to see all the old oekaki drawings, I remember these back in the day! I attended international school too as a teen, and when I first got talking about art to a classmate, we both spoke about your art much in the same way you'd find out that you both listen to the same favourite band.

Loish

thanks so much haha! that's so awesome. i also went to international school, it's an experience that stays with you forever
