Here’s a painting that I finally managed to finish! It changed a lot from the WIP version which I posted a few months ago:

I wanted to give her a little more confidence and more of an intentional gesture, so I made a bunch of changes to the pose and expression. The main struggle of this painting was getting the red to work. I'm using this color more and more lately, but I have a love/hate relationship with it. It's hard to get the values right, and have it still feel warm and soft!

Hope you guys like it! Thanks so much for supporting me in creating my art and paintings!! ❤

The way you draw gesture and expression is always so gorgeous! everything has a flow :) I'm sorry if you've answered this already but do you have any tips on ways to practice drawing different expressions and gestures?

Hey Loish. I have such a hard time studying and understanding the planes of the face and making them look attractive in different lightings. Do you have any recommendations of exercises or resources to work on this? Your figure is lighted from below and still has such as beautiful, feminine quality which I tend to lose in mine. Thanks~

I definitely want to try painting with reds like this sometime. It's really tricky, but you seriously managed to pull it off! I love it!

Wow! This is gorgeous!!

thanks so much! i think it helps to have some reference. and don't be afraid to divert from what is 'accurate' in order to make things more visually pleasing!

Loish

definitely do sketches and studies! that helps a lot! if you scroll back to my recent sketchbook tour, I talk a bit about how sketching loosely helps me become more confident at gestures and expressions.

Beautiful! I love the color and lighting. How do you make those light effects coming out of her hands? It looks so cool!

Amazing work! I'm always so scared of the color red because it can be so harsh, but you rendered it beautifully!
