Here’s the process video for my patreon launch painting! It’s messy but I think it’s a pretty good depiction of my process: just winging it and changing things a bazillion times as I go. I thought it was funny to watch it myself, because it was 3 different drawings before it became the one it is now :') Here's the final:

I sped it up a bit so that it doesn’t become too long/boring. If you guys have any questions about my process from watching this video, ask away! I’ll try to answer them and also try to address those questions in future posts here on my patreon :)

Any suggestions for art block that lasts long? :) Also how did You practice anatomy at the beginning of your art career? Thanks so much for sharing process, it's amazing to watch it and I love that it's not speeded up that much!

Hi Lois, what's your canvas size can we learn?

Loish

thank you!! art block.. that's a tough one. for me it always helps to just sketch from reference for a while, since that means i don't have to think of things to draw from the imagination. also, I try to just allow myself to draw 'ugly' stuff. usually it's the internal pressure I put on myself that drives me into an art block. anatomy: I practiced by doing studies from ref and then instantly trying to apply that knowledge to drawings from the imagination! if i depend too much on ref, it's missing imagination. if i depend too much on imagination, it's missing details and believability. it's the mix of both that helps me! I hope this advice was useful!!

Loish

usually the longest side is anywhere from 6000 to 9000 pixels! and 300 DPI of course!

Loish! This was actually super useful. I know you are talking about artblock but the whole thing about applying what you learned from reference so that you don't miss the imagination is exactly what I needed to hear. 🙏🙏

Hello Lois, amazing work btw! I wanted to ask, I like the brush you used for sketching, did you use it for painting as well? If I may know, what brush is it? How is it called?

Loish

hey carolina! thanks so much! the sketch is made with macalabs HB pencil and the painting is mostly the hard round brush. you can find more info here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/step-by-step-i-34615265

I don't work digitally so I stupidly skipped this one at first! Now I'm using acrylics again I really appreciate how many techniques can be shared. Also, the last 10 minutes were like watching a great film as it all came together!
