Hello everyone, I brought a guest today that I'd like to introduce to you. She will be joining us alongside the Vanilla Factions Expanded - Vikings.

Freya Fierce

Freya believes in the importance of showing your strength and using force to show others their place. Every year after the first year, at the start of Aprimay your settlement will become increasingly unhappy until you send your colonists on an adventure or a raid, and bring back the spoils of war. 


Freya is a storyteller that will work perfectly fine for your viking colony, but also for spacer pirates if that's what you want to play as. She introduced a brand new mechanic - a stacking colony-wide debuff when you turtle in and not leave your base - it's all for that extra bit of challenge.

Event-wise, she's just like Randy - throwing random events in random amounts of time. She does however allow for double the population - and trust me, you will need it.

Every year after the first year, following debuff will appear and will stack up to 4 times:

 

Restless (x0)    0    “We should begin planning our next raid.”

Restless (x1) -15 “Traveling should be easy now, we can easily loot from those weaklings.”

Restless (x2) -25 “Why is our warband growing so docile? The weak should fear the strong - We must attack our enemies soon.”

Restless (x3) -35 “So many luxuries at our fingertips, yet we’re too cowardly to slaughter our enemies and take their riches?”

Restless (x4) -45 “I’ve lost all hope - There is no way we can keep going like this, I fear our people and history will never be remembered.” 

In order for this effect to reset, player needs to venture out and succeed in any quest, modded or not, that takes place outside of your own map - whether it's a raid, bandit outpost, captured prisoner rescue - all of those will reset the counter.

We hope this storyteller will be ideal for players afraid of having the game force them to just build and stay hunkered down. It should pose a nice challenge for those wanting to play as a bandit gang!

She is going to be my go-to storyteller, 100%. Randomness, incentive to raid, and large population is all I look for!

Is there any mood buff for a successful raid? Or does it just reset to 0 as you should be raiding anyway?

Would the debuff apply to those on world tiles not inside the colony?

Does she actively generate world quests for you to go on, or do you have to get lucky?

Love the idea. I am not sure about the numbers though. Already Restlessx3 is almost unmanageable. Also, -15 for the first year is a heavy hit. Maybe -10...well, you know better.

If the pawns' debuff could reset as soon as they leave the colony map, it would be a nice touch. The excitement for a new adventure and all. Anyway, congratulations.

But the current system is not per pawn, it’s per colony. If I made it so a single pawn can form a caravan and immediately re-enter to reset the debuff that would be soo broken :p

Any tech restrictions or is that going to be maynards sole purpose. Don’t mind at all in fact it makes it more entertaining to think Maynard just gets kicked out of the way by freya or any other storyteller.

It's Maynards sole purpose, I don't want to eclipse him at all. Also, tech limiting storytellers limit the gameplay - what if someone wants to play as raiding space pirates? Freya allows all!

If you've gone 4 years without raiding a camp, and you're at Restlessx3 you're not much of a Viking then, are you? :P
