Hello everyone and welcome to today's typical tuesday suggestions!

I am now on holidays but I am still ready to hear your ideas. This time let’s focus on the upcoming Vanilla Factions Expanded mod - what would you love to see with the Vikings?

This TTS thread will be used from 18/08/2020 to 25/08/2020.

Viking funerals would be nifty. Then again that would require normal funerals. That'd also be a neat touch. A way to relieve the stress of a colonists death. But that gets a bit off topic there. Perhaps some form of rune carving? Doesn't need any mechanical value, but it'd be good for aesthetics.

Perhaps mead would be a cool addition. Maybe another alcohol type is unnecessary given the recent release of vanilla brewing expanded, but it would be fitting for a Viking mod.

I think there will already be shields with these Vikings considering there are already shields in multiple of the other faction mods. But if you could please keep them colorable so I can have a matching army of melee people, and will mead and ale be added with them aswell? Also a little off topic would you ever consider making maybe 2 high tech shields such as a power shield and maybe a ballistic shield to go along with the insectiod mod?

Social fights improving opinions about the participants. Mead.

Viking longboat also facial stuff v2? The ability to provide protection for other factions in exchange for silver, there would be 2 ways, you can send some colonists to stay at their colony or go to their base just before they get raided. Helmet customization, you can go a work bench and select add-ons which would provide certain buffs. Horns, there would be different types from different animals like caribou and lothurr, they can be put on the helmet to provide a boost in social. Helmet paints like the face paints that can provide more of social stuff. Gold inlay that would provide a big social boost, this could also be used with different ores like jade and plasteel, plasteel can provide more hit points. Visible damage on the helmets and armour

Decorative Shields on the walls would be cool. And maybe some type of fur rugs or animal skin rugs of legendary animals

If rune carving could be worked into psycasts in some way that would be amazing

Thomas Pyke

Slings as an alternative to bows and upgrade for throwing rocks, for areas (Like Tundras) where leather may be readily available, but wood is not. I'd also love to see a Boar Spear or some other short spear, for use with shields, though the similar Javelin/Hasta would be just as fitting in a classical-era addon.

Some form of clothing that is used instead of t-shirts that gives a buff to cold temps like gloves. This way you can wear armour and not have to worry about temps.

Bee keeping and mead brewing please! I don't know if it's entirely Viking themed but maybe some stockade fences. I think it would be nice to have something you can throw up quick early game but maybe doesn't have the highest HP.

A mission for raiding/pillaging a nearby settlement with a mood buff for doing it would be cool and thematic. Only available if you're friendly to the viking faction. A smokehouse for meat preservation would also be a neat way to get a pemmican like food stuff from meat and wood. Would be balanced in the tundra because you wood is more valuable. Make the tech locked behind a tech print like item only obtained through viking missions or trade.

Reigys

Some form of integration with the boats mod? Perhaps a custom Viking boat

A Berserker trait that has a chance of making a pawn immune to all debuffs during combat. They fight at 150% efficiency until they die or combat is over. Melee only.

Another path to earning psycasts that doesn't involve pissing off the Empire. At the moment, we have two peaceful ways of achieving psycasters in our colonies (ever since the removal of psylink neuroformers from trade) : 1. Earning Empire honor & 2. Using Anima Trees (if tribal). Another way is to betray the Empire during the deserter quest or at any other point in the game, this however puts players that either do not want to engage this type of foe or straight up cannot engage them on the world map, because they're using your Maynard Medieval storyteller, in a difficult spot. I'd love the Vikings mod to come with some sort of buildable shrine that would harness human vs human combat nearby and after collecting enough *insert_type_of_resource_like_ire_here* would allow for a ritual to form a psylink (similar to the anima tree). Having said that, I have absolutely no idea how to spin this so it doesn't look like magic since You & Tynan are trying to keep the setting purely sci-fi (perhaps a use for AI cores obtained in quests if someone runs a primitive colony).

Seconding the idea of another path for psycasters. Also anything involving the vague concepts of runes, could be for psycasting, or maybe just a decorative flair in structures and whatnot.

New objects or ways for meditation, funeral pyres, new customizations (hair), weapons inspired by mythology (without disturbing Thor, a persona version of Odin's spear wouldn't be bad) ... if you have time some reference to skyrim is always welcome;). P.S. without your mods rimworld wouldn't be rimworld, great job.

Give them a chance to suffer a Beserk Mental break when wounded/in combat, in exchange for increased pain/damage resistance and increased hit/dodge skills. You give up control in exchange for a huge combat buff. Alternatively make it a player triggered ability?

Vikings (well, Norsemen in general) were famous for mercenary work. Perhaps an event where a band of viking mercenaries offers to protect your colony in exchange for food/booze/pay. If their mood gets too low they turn on you. A quest where a settlement expects to be raided and so requests your colonies help. Maybe have Viking traders offer to sell you their loot from raiding other factions. Lots of slaves and gold.

Already messaged you about this, but wanted to make sure it went into official channels. Hunter Soul/Perpetual Stew in Vanilla Expanded Cooking, for tribal tech to leverage as a type of nutrient paste dispenser-like option for raw food that spoils quickly and would be well suited to stationary settlements. Inspiration: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perpetual_stew

You know i really think there needs to be a neolithic/medieval replacement for the options that require power. Comm console comes to mind as well as the formentioned nutrient paste.

A normal round shield and a brand new sci if cryptoshield are coming for that sweet sci fi Viking vibe!

oskarpotocki

Mead is coming, as well as long feasts with lots of drugs, booze and social fights.

oskarpotocki

Facial stuff v2? No. We have our own beards system which is far superior and cleaner. We will have vikings spawning with beards and... facial paint! And that will be epic!

oskarpotocki

We have patched normal vanilla spear to work with shields. We are also adding throwing axes and harpoons!

oskarpotocki

Something far better is already coded - a very unique storyteller that will punish you for not raiding :)

oskarpotocki

We already added mercenaries with the medieval mod so I’d rather not duplicate their code, but we do have slavers and traders with unique loot!

Reigys

had to go down from jade tier for now. I love your stuff though, just trying to save money.

oskarpotocki

Absolutely understandable! I can recommend staying at least on steel tier as unsubscribing altogether will mean you will lose access to the devblogs. I appreciate all the support, and I understand how difficult it can be in the times like this.
