Hello and welcome everyone to another mod development diary, this time focused on what Kikohi, our lead map generation programmer, has been working on.

Our new framework which will be deployed alongside the Viking mod and will ultimately allow us to keep a library of structures we can easily spawn into the map to generate unique, interesting settlements that are a bit closer to realism than what you have in vanilla.

We will also release a mod remaking vanilla faction bases - tribal bases will now be actual villages, outlander settlements will be little cities and pirate hideouts will be large military bases!

Let's take a look at just one of the combinations of the Viking settlement:

Bearing in mind it's a work in progress, you can see exactly what I meant. You can see various building types, with furniture, animals, plants and specific floors spawning. We are planning to create dozens of buildings a game can easily pull from a library whenever generating a base. We hope this will make it much more interesting to raid, and maybe even take over and settle.

I agree that an open checkpoint with some type of defences would feel better. Overall I think it's a definite improvement from the base game.
