We have now content-locked insectoids and our programmers are working tirelessly to prepare them for release. The mod will of course require rigorous testing before we can publish it, but I have decided to open up the testing for all people on our Vanilla Expanded discord - if you want in, simply subscribe to Jade tier or higher - you only need to subscribe once to stay there forever.

Let me show you some content I have prepared for the mod in the recent days:

Spidersilk - “A very delicate fabric that seems to shine due to the way it reflects light rays. It’s very flammable and provides little protection, but the beauty of it makes it extremely valuable.”

Insect milk- “Milk from an insectoid.”

Insectoid egg- “An unfertilized insectoid egg. It can be eaten raw but it's much, much better cooked.”

Incubator - “An ultra-tech vat tank connected to advanced life support systems. Often used on urbworlds and rimworlds for less than legal experiments, incubator is capable of mixing genomes and creating genetic modifications in the form of living subjects.”

Sonic Infestation Repeller - “A large ultratech device capable of emitting a sonic pulse every hour, repelling any insectoid movement underneath. Whilst it significantly removes the infestation risk, it enrages the insectoid empress and can lead to more powerful insectoid herds arriving at the colony.

Armillarix -  “A medium sized mushroom. When fully matured, its cap spreads open to release an inner bulb that emits very hard light, bright enough to grow other crops around it.”

Genetic Rim Expanded incoming? ^^ I am also curious about the balancing of the Armillarix - I guess you want to create a sunlamp for early stages, prob with less radius? There are typos: "Whilst it significantly removes" - it can either remove the chance or significantly reduce it, but not both. And I see that you already corrected "the its". :D

Will we see the new Insectoids on our maps due to infestations and natural cave spawns? Or do they only arrive from raids or attacking a hive base? Further will local hives on our map act like differently? Expand more? Do things besides just act as a bug spawner? I always wish they actually acted like little ant colonies and had a room for a Queen and expanded and etc. Generally will local hives/infestations act differently or is this only really for raids and faction bases? That might be asking too much and I distracted myself from the main thing. Which is this is looking amazing and I absolutely can not wait to play it and seeing what I could do with the bugs or these new resources and - well everything here. You've outdone yourself.

It’s all now going through our guy who studies English language, he will correct all mistakes :)

We have not touched vanilla infestations to not cause issues with popular mods like Better Infestations for example. We only added new content, without changing the existing one.

Wow, you are the RimWorld Avengers! (Strictly speaking, "significantly removes" is no typo but a logical error, so it might presume even after your English guy studied it.)

Maybe, Better Infestations will add support for Insectoids, later? I am convinced that there will be patches regarding Vanilla infestations, later.

oskarpotocki

Not sure if the author of Better Infestations is still around to do that

Cr0ssley

Well he/she replied to my discussion I posted on the mod page

Both insect milk and egg? Are these insects mammals or oviparous animals? Or probably a type of monotreme?

oskarpotocki

They are genetically modified and only appear if you manually grow them in vat tanks. They are made ONLY to serve humans. I wouldn’t be surprised if some mad scientist made an insect producing chocolate!

That is a very awesome setting, if you just get rid of boring earth biology on the rimworld
