John Henry's primary legend is him racing and beating a new invention that was supposed to bore tunnels faster, and would have put him and his collogues out of work. He's suppose to represent the pinacol of human strength, endurance, and perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds. And working class folk standing up to the capitalist machine. He also MIGHT have been a real person? I always thought he was just an urban legend but apparently several sources claim he was real, and even where the race took place. But he didn't die in the race, he died of siliceous. He also didn't do the race alone, he had one other person helping him.

I’m glad they did personally. Most/nearly all bully characters are two dimensional archetypes but I like how gravity falls breathed life into theirs by making her redeemable, good storytelling

It's not like nepo babies are nepo babies by choice. They haven't done anything wrong to get saddled with the kind of upbringing that they have. So showing them growing beyond that and becoming better people is always a positive imo

John Henry was a real dude. Prolific Black man of the American 1800s. The animated movie obviously exaggerated his accomplishments, but the real story reminds me how cushy of a life I’m living.
