What Mineta is doing when he's "swallowing his fear" is actually a Japanese superstition. You write the kanji for "person" on your hand three times and swallow it to relieve your nerves and make yourself more calm! I've only ever watched My Hero in Japanese so its interesting rewatching with you guys in English and noticing things they tried to explain for English speakers!

I get what Montana is on about the declarations of war being stupid and kind of cringe but I think she needs to remember that these are literal children, just shy of being middle schoolers, she's talking about and it makes sense why they are acting like children so there's no reason to be mad about it like they are adults doing this lmao

The declarations of war are a time honored tradition. There's rivalry and then there's "I am so confident I am going to publicly say this so that I have humiliation ahead of me if I lose but I am SO confident that I am better that I will say it publicly and loudly to intimidate you and others".

Montana really overthinking the declarations of war, this is what guys do, they are competitive, its not about being a dick or getting an advantage. When I compete I want the other guy to know he is the one I am gonna beat. Its a sign of respect and it gets us both amped up for the competition.
