Update: Plans for our next Anime (Patreon)

After releasing the polls and looking at comments, its clear that you all are excited about all 5 of our show options!!

Unfortunately, my copyright editor informs me that Spy X Family possesses very strict but also not consistent (worst trait ever for us editors) copyright, and considering that Patreon is now also cracking down it means that I sadly must eliminate it from consideration at this time. Additionally it came in last place on our youtube poll. Someday we will reconsider, but for now it doesn't seem possible. 

That leaves us with My Hero, Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and Code Geass! We have a plan to test out these 4 but its complicated, so FOCUS UP:

Step 1: Watch the pilot of each of these series and release them as ADDITIONAL videos on Patreon, coming out so that hopefully from March 29th-April 8th we will post a new vid every day!

Step 2: Post ep 1 of each series on YouTube Fridays for 4 Fridays in a row at the end of April/beginning of May as a 5th video during those weeks, and see which series YouTube likes most.

Step 3: Timeline wise, the finale of Death Note will be posted to Patreon 2 days before the 4th pilot premieres on YouTube May 12th, and following a day off from posting the Saturday after that to officially decide which of the 4 we will do, we will resume posting with episode 2 of our chosen series Wednesday May 17th, and continue onward with whatever series it is from there!

Step 4: Death Note finishes up on youtube for 3 weeks following this testing period, and ep 2 of the new series picks up the Thursday after Death Ends on June 4th.

That was a lot of words haha, but basically this means a BUNCH of extra content coming your way, hope you all are excited!

Are copyrights selective about who’s allowed to post their content? Because I know multiple creators that post full unedited reactions on there patreon. Like Yaboyroshi

Honestly we were gonna compete between 2 shows but Code Geass got such praise we decided to go ahead and test 4! Then we’ll know for sure which is a more viable series and such, and everyone gets a fair chance

If copyright is an issue, you might want to stop all future Demon Slayer reactions. If I remember correctly, you had issues when you first started watching it, and that was before the recent crackdown. From my understanding, Demon Slayer is one of the biggest copyright targets right now, perhaps in anticipation for the new season in April. I imagine the same thing will happen to Jujutsu Kaisen by the end of spring.

I'm not personally interested in a Code Geass reaction, but that might be the easiest show to work around, at least of the ones you mentioned.

Thanks for the consideration, good thing is all YouTube videos have been unaffected by this crackdown, it’s just Patreon. So demon slayer is good to go!

I’m curious if the copyright infringement is also related to regions that are able to view your videos. IIRC - Totally Not Mark had a huge issue with that a year or so ago where Toei Animation went after every Dragonball and One Piece video he posted, even when it was original content. I think he had to adjust his settings so that certain countries were not able to view his content to avoid further infringement notices. Might be worth looking into.

You guys should add Soul Eater in place of Spy X Family! It's about a school run by Death himself that trains kids to fight "demons." Also the openings are bangers and the animation style is very fun.

The answer is yes. TotallyNotMark had a dozen videos reviewing Toei works with limited footage removed 4-5 years after posting. Sometimes they see something and decide to remove it. I find with anime when I post something that is 'claimed' it's usually a few seconds too much in a fight OR it's music and they let you post but they take my $ The Patreon stuff is very weird tho, Japan may have just found Vimeo or something.

tbf JJK and Chainsaw Man aren't amazing for YT systems either. ESPECIALLY with Season 2 of JJK I find companies crack down on all eps when new eps air.

1st Demon Slayer was so be a lil cautious if you can. Would suck to get 3 strikes 3 or 4 weeks into posting and get boomed of YT. I do find Aniplex is pretty fine they have auto claims up front and if you edit enough to pass they generally don't manually review videos.

I think they Fd him in the A no matter what he did and almost ruined his life. I think he offered to have them not visible in Japan but Toei never responded so he gave up IIRC

I just wanna add for arguments sake. Death Note lost the polls originally and a few people inc me said it would be great/and do well. Now it's released it's performed better (i dunno which you enjoyed more) but fans find the show on YT but they don't know about these polls cause they are nicher old shows. In saying this I mean JJK, SpyX, MHA are super popular shows everyone has seen so people know to vote from here but Code Geass would have similar fan base to Death Note and I am defs not biased as a massive fan. But If it becomes a factor I'd honestly suggest the recap films/new films can save heaps of time and get onto other series but still react. :)

I kinda agree. I do like the other anime on the poll, but it's all very shiny, recent anime with hype, whereas Code Geass, just like Death Note, still has hard-core fans after fifteen years. Also watching Code Geass after Death Note is kind of tradition by now... both shows have some similarities, but Code Geass is so ANIME in comparision to Death Note, it's always very fun to get from on to another.

Yeah like if you had a Japanese connoisseur here they'd probably mention Code Geass with it's Gundam ties and how big Gundam is and Mecha etc. I was not tryna say the other shows are bad. But I think after Death Note + with new seasons of the other shows and AOT dropping it'd be good. I am so invested i'd honestly happily edit myself Code Geass 1 or even 2 eps a week into 1 video if they had time to record it that is.

Thank you for the info on the upcoming projects. Especially Code Geass and MHA I cannot wait to see your reactions :) for an anime I wish you would put Hunter x Hunter in the roster. It is one of the best shonen anime with nearly zero bad episodes 🤗 oh and still hoping for Tangled the Adventure for a western show you could react to 😇

Where does Cowboy Bebop come in for the "copyright strictness" sweepstakes? Clearly, for your line of work, the ability to put something out on a consistent basis is a big issue.

I mean fruits basket is a great anime. I think both of you would have a lot to say about. Lots of psychological stuff, and character development. Just a lot to analyze, and I think that’s a show best suited for your type of channel. 🤷‍♂️

Oh, that sucks.. I was hoping to see you guys get a fun and relaxing show in contrast to your lineup already. All the other candidates are fine except Chainsawman.. Has quite a bit of gore but I guess if AOT was doable it should be fine??

Peter - I remember for the resolution in Mark’s case, YouTube had to get involved. It was something along the lines of where they made his videos non-viewable in Japan, where copyright laws are vastly different, and made it so that Toei were able to flag for copyright and attempt to appeal in other countries that the company is located in, but they would have to actually make the effort. As I understand it, all 150 or so videos of his that were flagged were all from Toei Japan and were flagged within seconds of each other and not truly reviewed.

Similar to Death Note, the 2nd episode of Code Geass is where people usually go "OH DAMN..... so this is where it's going". The first 2 episodes should be thought of as one. Like Death Note, it's a classic that won't be as popular in the polls as it's older, but it's a classic for a reason. P.S. The OST is absolute fire (What's Justice, The Knight, Madder Sky, etc.)

Ah I hope Code Geass does well... Haven't seen chainsaw or jjk and there's a ton of MHA reactions, enough that I'd never be able to watch them all, but there's rarely new code geass reactions and I'd love to see you guys theorize on it...

Even if you skip Spy X Family due to copyright I strongly urge you to watch it! That show had me laughing for days
