In this episode, we see Rem threaten to write down Light's name if any harm comes to Misa, even if doing so would cost Rem her own life. Ryuk on the contrary, actively tells Light he won't intervene in his life and acts more like a spectator. Given what you've learned about Shinigami and the Shinigami world so far, how do you think the contrasts between Rem/Misa and Light/Ryuk's relationships will evolve and impact the story overtime?

L calling Light his first friend... will this cloud his judgment? Personally it crushes me with what happens at the end of the ep.

I would love to know your guys's opinion on when or if light will ever make such a grievous mistake that it seals his Doom? And if so what do you think that moment will be if it hasn't already happened?

In this episode, L says to Light “You are not Kira. That is, it will be a problem if you were Kira. Because… I feel you are the first friend that I've ever had.” — however L shortly after this conversation asks Mogi to track Light’s whereabouts. Given what we’ve seen from L and Light’s interactions since meeting, do you feel this was genuine coming from L or meant to throw Light off his suspicions?

I find the groups supporting the main players in Death Note to be really interesting. Especially considering that Light, exhibiting tendencies of psychopathy, is incredibly self centered (really only surrounding himself with followers and pawns), and L, exhibiting tendencies of sociopathy (and the added side effect of his career), does not form connections with others as often as most people. The two isolated chess players and their chess pieces— what do you make of each group’s dynamic? How do you think the additions of Rem and Misa to Light’s board and Suichiro’s upset over Light’s suspicion will effect the group, and specifically the main players, if at all?
