Keyblade

This episode was the peak of the show for me. There is still one specific side-story about Zuko, that wasn't in the cartoon, which I really really enjoyed, but the rest of the episodes felt very weird to me. Some extremely weird writing in some parts.

In the grand scheme of things, I understand the portrayal of Bumi… story wise telling yeah it would make sense after 100 years of being absent, Bumi would hold some resentment. But when you look at the story from the ATLA pov, it’s a huge miss of Bumi’s character. But I do understand, it’s just a bit iffy. The extra scenes that showed off the brutality of the war were great choices.

The conversation with the earthbender reminds me of when iroh was kidnapped in the hot spring in season 1 and the Lu ten scene was just beautiful. And helps explain the deep bond between zuko and iroh

Then everything changed...when the badger moles attacked

Half expected a Steven universe reference Bumi: YOU THINK LIKE A CHILD Aang: I am a child...what's your excuse?

I didn't think that Sokka's sliding was weird until y'all pointed it out lol but it also got me thinking - what if Katara was trying to prevent Bumi from stopping Sokka by earthbending him into the ground? At a minimum, Bumi seemed shocked by the technique, which is maybe why he wasn't able to "stop" Sokka? Similar to how Toph wasn't prepared when she first fought Aang.

On a different note, I think they did a great job portraying Iroh's loss and adding depth to his relationship with Zuko this episode. I figured Iroh's actor would do the role justice (having seen him in a different show previously), but Zuko's actor really brought it home in those scenes.
