Really the most unbelievable thing about the Billy arc is his politically influential family wanting him back from hell... Given the real history of so many powerful families absconding with any family members that even slightly don't fit in.

I don't like how often Angel just happens to be immune or overcome the bad guy's mojo. It reeks of deus ex machina, which is a trite and way overused story-telling device. And it feels like Angel just _has to_ be the big shining hero every single episode - even in an episode that's supposed to be about empowering women. But at least this time he doesn't save the day in the end. It's Lilah, a victim, who takes back her power and kills Billy. And the overall episode is really good. Uncomfortable, but good.

It was such a bad choice to have Angel immune, taking Cordelia's choice away from her to "save her" from it (patronizing), especially after setting up at the beginning that Angel can't always be there and she needs to be able to fight for herself. And if there were ever a justifiable person to kill, it's easily Billy, so it's not really something that would eat her up. It's a glaringly bad mixed message....idk how they didn't see that when writing. Like you said, it's like they *have* to have Angel be the big hero all the time, even if it does a disservice to other characters or the message of the episode.
