iI's been a minute since I've had SO MANY AUDIO FILES to give you.
First off, it's the song! I think I managed to make it sound extremely karaoke-esque while still being catchy and enjoyable to listen to. The final piano part is Karen's playing—I wrote the music and then gave it to her to actually perform on a real piano so it would sound beautiful instead of stilted, which is how I would play it.
And then it's the sound effects. Since I wanted to make the video as uncanny as possible, I recorded ALL of the audio in post, which means that I also have a bunch of weird sound effects that you can peruse/use in your own projects! As a reminder, anything labelled SFX is completely free for you to download and use in anything you make. Here are some fun little facts about the noises:
- the reversed voice clip in the intro to the video is a pitched down clip of me saying "the black screen symbolizes falling asleep"
- crinkling an empty water bottle will always be my favorite way to make weird bone-breaking sounds
- the son's voice is double-tracked recordings of me doing the worst, most-gurgly sounding voice I could manage. One is then pitched up and the other pitched down. It gives that really bassy monster effect while still staying semi-intelligible. I like it a lot and I want to do more monster voices.
- I own a violin and I have only ever used it to make terrible noises for the horror shorts I make.
- I made the jaunty chiptune just to keep the background interesting, but I ended up making something I like a lot. It's repetitive, so it should be easy to make as long as you need in any videos/projects you want to use it in!
- I didn't include all the silly sound effects of the Son rumbling under the couch because I downloaded them all from the internet. I wanted them to be easily recognizable. It's amazing how easy it is to find good things by searching "cartoon boing sound effect"
Hope you all enjoy these! It was a blast to make. I love getting to fool around with sounds.
