Who filmed three videos and still hasn't managed to finish/post any of them this month? That's right it's me!

WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW

The photos at the top of this post are all collected from three videos I've filmed. Let's talk about why each one isn't done.

Greenscreen pics 1&2: This was supposed to be my February video. It's a parody of those terrible mobile game ads that all have headlines like "Don't Tell Your Wife About This Game!!" or "Is this the SEXIEST game?"

It's a song, and I wrote the lyrics/melody, and I started filming it with the intention of arranging the song during the edit. And then that just didn't happen. I re-arranged this song in a 90s R&B style, then something more EDM-ish, and then as a weird, Imogen Heap-esque vocoder ballad, and I didn't like any of them.

So I've pressed the panic button, and by panic button, I mean I reached out to my pal Jonah to help turn this one into something actually listenable. We might have to change the melody/refilm the entire song, but now I can stop metaphorically slamming my head against a wall, which is how it felt for the two weeks I tried to rearrange this dang song.

Fisheye pics 3&4: This is something that came together in a day. Karen said a silly joke one night, and then I said "we could film that," and even though I felt like it was ridiculous, I really wanted to make something that felt like "old YouTube." So we went to a park the next day and filmed it in a couple hours, and I'm editing that to be my next video. I had originally planned to get it out by tomorrow (2/28), but I'm putting more effort into the edit than I expected, so it'll probably be out in the next week or so.

Disneyland pic 5: TBH, this was also a last minute filming idea. We went to Disneyland on a surprisingly dead/rainy day, and for some reason that was all it took for me to start pretending I was a "Theme Park Tips & Tricks!" YouTuber. I really can't tell if this will become a video that I'll want to post to YouTube, but I'll probably edit something together and at least post it to Patreon to let you all decide whether or not I should put it on my channel.

WHAT'S HAPPENING NEXT

These three videos!

(Also, Karen and I are trying to write a bunch more these days, so that's been taking up most of our mornings. Maybe maybe maybe we'll have something to share at some point, but again, it's out of our hands, and maybe the things we write will come out in a year/three years/never, so who can say!)

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN MY BRAIN?

I realize that my last progress report talked about spending more time with certain videos, so making these short, silly videos might seem counterintuitive. But I've been having a lot of trouble posting anything this past year, so I've been making a concerted effort to be less precious with the things I make.

I'd love to recapture a bit of my original mindset when I first started making videos ("I am bored and this seems silly and fun to make") instead of drowning in my current mindset ("Lots of people watch my videos and it is my job and therefore it must be strenuous and unenjoyable"). It's easier said than done, but letting myself film a video on a day's notice is helping a bit!

So look forward to some weird ones coming out in the next month or so, and I'll keep trying to find the things I'm excited about, and hopefully you'll be a little excited about them as well!

If it helps at all, the people who are watching the videos would much rather you had fun than not. short-notice funtimes rule!

I hope the stressies pass soon! If it's any consolation, I know you are a real person, and care more about your well-being than getting 'x' number of videos each month

We love "being less precious" with art and those stills alone remind me of what a blessing you and your humor are. I don't notice when a video "doesn't come out this month", I only notice when they do appear and what a massive treat that is. Keep on keeping on in the way that works for you and Karen <3

I love a good mix of, "This is a great idea and should be done right" and "lol but what if I just did it" videos. I hope you both can find a good balance to keep it fun, minimal stress, and artistically fulfilling!!

These stills are so silly looking and I'm excited for what you're working on. I like it weird.

Pro tip: if you work one shift a week at the Denny's, you can say that's your job and you just make YouTube videos for fun on the side.

A second channel could be a way to take the pressure off for some goofier stuff. But to be honest I'm sure most of your audience appreciates a real mix of videos anyway!

If it's any consolation, all of the arrangements you described sound like impeccable vibes (I love Imogen Heap). But I get not being happy with something no matter what you try 😭 I'm sure Jonah will be a huge help! Also I feel you on the "I need to try less hard with every single project" problem. I'm an artist and I've been struggling with perfectionism, which has led to me just... not drawing. Which makes me rusty, which makes the things I do draw worse, which... y'know. Solidarity in working on our perfectionism 💖

Will we ever get to hear the rejected arrangements from vid #1? I, too, am desirous of the Imogen Heap vibes that you mentioned.

I'm curious, did you consult on this? https://store.steampowered.com/app/1192810/Romancelvania/

As a big Imogen Heap enthusiast, I really wanna hear your failed song honestly...
