I'll split this progress report into 3 sections: UPCOMING VIDS, UPCOMING NOT VIDS, and OTHER STUFF.

UPCOMING VIDS:

So the good news is that I finally have a line-up cut of Mr. Smock (Pic 1) and the most colorful timeline I've ever made. It's because I had all of the shots color coordinated based on how I would had to stand in front of the green screen (Pic 2 is the script, also color coordinated, and Pic 3 is my "storyboard" of shot templates. You can tell it's the end because of my note saying "This is taking too long and I have to film tomorrow so I'm gonna make shot templates instead"). I'll upload the full script and storyboards for the Novelty Instrumentalist tier when the video comes out!

But that's the bad news. The video is still very far from coming out, and I've hit that point in long video projects where I think "Hmm, this is bad, and I don't like it anymore." Granted, the video is only 30% done, 'cause it needs graphics and sound effects and music. Maybe that will make me like it again, or maybe it won't! I don't know! Either way, I'll finish it up, and I will at least upload it here to Patreon, probably in late August or early September.

Luckily, I'll have a new shorty out for you next week (Pic 4, "i'm not superstitious but"), and I'm still planning to release a shorty every 3 weeks or so, even though I'm making good progress on the other two edits (Pic 5, "X dance moves to try at the club" and Pic 6, "this song is not a metaphor"). Why am I planning to release them every 3 weeks or so instead of as soon as they are done? Well...

UPCOMING NOT VIDS:

The next three months of my life are going to be unbelievably hectic. I do not have a single completely free weekend until maybe October, and even that could change at any moment! This is because of trips (some business, some weddings, some just seeing family for the first time in over a year), and the fact that I'm most likely going to be moving at the end of September.

Filming things while moving is one of the worst experiences (I've had to do it a lot), which is why I've tried to film as much as I possibly can up front, so that way I can conceivably just edit videos on my laptop while propping myself up on a bunch of recently packed cardboard boxes.

Also, there are a few other projects that are taking up some time! A few are things I cannot talk about, and a few are things I can talk about, like setting up a merch store and making a special collaboration ice cream with The Charmery in Baltimore and making a very silly Halloween-themed music project for October! Woo! You'll hear more about those things soon (and if you have any specific merch ideas I am all ears)!

This is just to say that even though I've got lots on my plate, I don't want to throw a bunch of junk on my YouTube and call it a day. I'll give you all a heads up if I ever can't manage to publish a monthly video (and I probably won't charge on Patreon for that month), but here's hoping I can stay afloat!

OTHER THINGS

This is a catchall section, but the big thing I want to point out is that I have been able to turn down ~15 sponsored video opportunities in the last month because of this Patreon, and holy hell I am so grateful. If I see one more email about R**d Sh*d*w L*g*nds, I'm gonna lose my cool.

Look, maybe someday I'll work with a weird sponsor who will give me the means to do something completely unhinged, but I'm extremely thankful that I can support myself without having to sell mobile games in my videos. I've now managed to do a half a year (whoa) of complete independence, and I cannot thank you all enough. Seriously. Thank you thank you thank you.

Other than that, I'm growing a mustache again. It's for my friend's wedding, but also just for me. That's the only other major update, I think. Talk soon!

Sounds like you have an incredibly busy schedule coming up! So glad you're able to do all this on your terms!

Get real, Gilbert: you and Patrick have a share-time with that mustache and keep passing it to each other every couple of months! I'm so happy this Patreon allows you to turn down boring ads, but I'd also like to say that you shouldn't feel bad in case you DO want to take some sponsor! This is your job, my dude, and you should be able to do it the way you want it. I also can't wait for whatever that red piece was for. Dances Moving is one of my all time favorites. Take care during those hectic times!

That One Irish Furry

Hope everything goes well during this busy time! As for merch ideas i know that YouTuber merch stores are usually just shirts and hoodies and stuff like that but i would absolutely love some BDG brand Jorts if possible XD

Oh wow, this is so many things!!! You're doing amazing, and it's great to hear that you're able to work independently. Also, the upcoming not-videos you listed made me literally dance in my seat. Very exciting things!! Thank you for making all of this wonderful content!

Anonymous

Best of luck with the upcoming stressful times! Also I'm so stoked about the Merch (not so much about the shipping to Europe part, tho).

Anonymous

Merch idea: unlock horse..... (No i don't know what exactly this is supposed to mean, i just have not gotten it out of my head)

Anonymous

Wow this is so many things! This is exactly what I was hoping when I signed up as a patron - that you'd be able to basically go off and do whatever you wanted without worrying about having to compromise with things like sp*nsors. or pr*duct pl*cement. Looking forward to the myriad of end results! It's also, tangentially, super interesting for me to see how people draw themselves especially when they don't advertise themselves as illustrators.

I am so happy to be able to enable the rejection of lame sponsorships and would be ecstatic to continue to do so during a hectic month of fewer videos. Please don't worry about magnitude of output; it's lovely just to know what's going on.

Anonymous

I joined this patreon because I wanted to see you be able to be creative and live your life without having to stoop to sponsorship deals and stuff. If you have to take time off, please just take our money anyway. Having a place to live is, last I checked, part of being an artist and part of life. I mean, we are just helping you pay for your new "studio" right? Please sir, take our money and don't feel guilty if you need to take some time to yourself.

Anonymous

Okay, but who else thinks a 6 second joke video followed by a 2 minute read of raid shadow legends ad copy would be funny?

Anonymous

Brian please take my money. If not for all the hard work you're doing right now and in the future, take it for all the joy and inspiration you've given me in the past. Good luck with everything.

This is a great update, hope everything goes well in this busy time! Merch idea: enamel pins (my personal favorite type of merch) !!

Anonymous

I'm manifesting the bike stream into a time zone where I can watch live... Don't worry about the 1 vid a month thing. Just having updates is fun.

Anonymous

I would definitely buy a High Intensity Biking headband with flames for working out inspiration.

Bees of War!

I couldn't parse the non-sponsor with all the asterisks and read it as "Roadshow Legends" and briefly thought it was some new History Channel version/ reboot of Antiques Roadshow in the same vein as Pawnstars. ...I guess feel free to take inspiration from that if you want?

Anonymous

Good luck with the move!

Anonymous

this update was quite the ride but at least it sounds like it'll be exciting hectic rather than plain stressful, hope it all goes as smooth as possible. please dont take on more than you can for the sake of churning out content for us, we'll be here whenever the projects end up getting done! as for merch, i may not be the best reference bc im not super big on merch (other than bandshirts from concerts, my weakness) but i would not hate a lil something something See The Day related, also seconding pins/patches, and if u wanna get real cryptic i must say i do not hate the look of that colour coded line up cut... do with that what u will

Anonymous

Thank you for the update! Congratulations on the Charmery collaboration, I hope I can get out there to try it while it's running!

Anonymous

As someone else mentioned, BDG-brand Jorts would be pretty incredible as a merch item! Also would be cool to see headbands and/or wristbands. And I think a "zjierbness" logo would be a good choice for whatever clothing merch you might decide to sell!

Anonymous

When Pat Gill shaved his mustache I made a joke that Brian was gonna grow his back, and I know it's just a coincidence but I died laughing when I realized he was doing just that.

Anonymous

Merch: definitely headbands. Something related to 2winz^2, posters maybe? Something (cup? pin?) that says 'Zjierb!' and 'New shoes?' and 'Ha ha, what?' And for more long term stuff: a physical CD (when there's enough tracks). A 2022 calendar could be fun.

Anonymous

Fingers crossed for New England Clam Chowder ice cream! Or maybe scrambled eggs!

Anonymous

brian if you think that we will support you only if you are productive enough you are a fool sir. do not worry about schedule, get through this intense period and make the most of it ♥️

Anonymous

Thanks for the update BDG. Life is hectic sometimes, but I trust you can do whatever you put your mind to. I'm excited for all of your little experiments and art you put out. Keep it up!

Anonymous

I concur with all of the above comments that state we would support you regardless of the frequency of content 💛 and would also like to add that even though I, a), live nowhere near Baltimore, and b), have no means of getting to Baltimore, I still am extremely excited about the ice cream collaboration with The Charmery.

Emma Loops

"New shoes?" merch would be an instant add to cart!! But basically so would anything else he makes 😂

Lauren Prince

Good luck with everything!!! Especially moving--I moved as an adult for the first time in December, and it was actually one of the worst experiences of my life. I'm psyched to hear about your ice cream collab with The Charmery--I rewatched your ice cream video just last night ♡ Personally, I hope you charge the Patreon even if you can't squeeze in a monthly video--I'm not paying for the videos, I'm paying to support YOU, and all the work you put in to other projects, too!

Big mood on the whole 'I have reached the point in this project where I no longer like it despite having invested a whole lot of time and energy into it already'. In terms of merch, I'm a sucker for enamel pins and would love a biking 'push your limits' type thing, but also as someone who lives in Australia, the shipping might limit my ability to actually follow through on getting anything lol

Idk if you get this too Cinn, but for me it’s very much because the idea stops feeling “original and fresh” once I’ve been working on it long enough. But my brain is a liar! The only reason it stopped feeling fresh to me is because I’ve been exposed to it for long enough - that doesn’t mean it won’t be fresh to other people who don’t live in your head! It’s just faith… faith in the version of yourself who saw something in the idea in the first place! That instinct is not usually wrong…

Anonymous

Even if you don’t upload a video for a certain month, I think almost all of us would still be fine with the Patreon payment to support what you’re doing! I understand the concern with accepting money without “giving” something in return but i think the access to behind the scenes content is worthwhile regardless

Anonymous

I would buy a BDG-themed enamel pin so fast. Zjierbness, 2winz^2, darts, anything.

Shavon Nand

BDG branded jorts as merch! Hopefully

Anonymous

Enamel pins are my favorite kind of merch, but you bet I’d also be happy to grab a shirt or some jorts! I know they’re from your Polygon days but I want you to know the specific way you said “Stop jumpin’!” from the OHSAA violation video has permanently found its way into my vocabulary. Also maybe something themed around the “haha, what?” video or especially “Dances Moving”, it’s one of my classic faves!

Anonymous

It's great to hear about all of this stuff! I'd love to see some Twinz^2 boyband merch or pins or anything based on dances moving. Maybe something for siblings?

Anonymous

That red jumpsuit is such a look.

Looking to buy a series of new covid face masks that catalogue the growth of the new mustache in 1:1 scale

Anonymous

I know this is kind of an old post now, but if you’re still after merch ideas, I’ve been wanting BDG-themed stickers for like a year now. I keep looking at them on Redbubble every now and then but never wanted to support some rando making money off your likeness and your content without your permission. Always wanted an “I feel zjierb” sticker to put on my laptop.

“Look, maybe someday I'll work with a weird sponsor who will give me the means to do something completely unhinged” And you did... And you did. EDIT: sorry, I mean Dracula did.
