Cinebench R20 included. Before you use the new smart diagnostic, make sure you have curve disabled in the BIOS and DRAM OC must be stable. CPU LLC has an incredible impact on stability. At the end of the guide there is some more information about CTR 2.1 RC5.

What's new?

  • Improved support Renoir. AGESA 1.2.0.0 and newer.
  • Dynamic profiles for Renoir disabled. It makes no sense, because the architecture does not allow the processor to run at high frequencies. Quick profile creation is available.
  • Improvement of the CPPC detection mechanism.
  • The voltage for OB test is reduced for some processors (the reason is weak cooling system of users). Some users let warm air from the video card through the CPU AIO heatsink, thereby the video card heats the processor. Yes, I know that this is a user problem, but I want to help a little bit.
  • Double check the temperature peak during diagnostics. Prevents alternate diagnostics from activating in some cases.
  • Temperature reduce for Zen 2 in some load types.
  • Other minor bug fixes.

I am now starting to create the CTR 2.1 RC6 which will increase the power efficiency of the profiles in light to medium loads. The RC6 will also be able to dynamically increase the voltage for P1 profile to achieve more performance depending on conditions and load.

The next video tutorial "how to configure OB for PX" you will see at the weekend at the earliest.

I also received "weak cooling system" message. I've got a 5950x with a Noctua D15 chromax, not the best, but not bad. I've ran CTR from cold when GPU temps around 45/50 idle

1usmus

I did not add indexes to use the Tab button. Tab - unupported. In the next update I will do this.

1usmus

Do you think this is good cooling for a $1000 processor? All Noctua's have an uneven heat distribution plate (has a hump).

very happy to read some new updates for the ''old'' Zen 2, great job Yuri!

imagine someone tells us we must run 10km and outside is 50‘C? Hell noh! Or run 10km at -10‘C? But running or walking 10km on 18 - 23‘C is lot different story. Same is with cpus or other machines. i run very slow when outside is really hot. And believe me if i could - i would reboot myself aswell to show how bad this is for me hahahah :))

This version rebooted my machine during the "Manual overclocking mode enabled" once I got down to Diagnostic VID 1125. Upon reboot, CTR didn't re-launch itself like it does if it reboots during the OB testing phase. It seems that everything is fine as it has filled in all the profiles, but just figured I'd report it in case that's not expected behavior.

Also, I'm a bit confused about the behavior of the calculate p1/p2 buttons in the profile with this version. By default, CTR v22 recommended my P2 profile as 1150mv, CCX1OB 32, CCX2OB 48, and CCX1/2 at 4525/4325 (AMD 5950x). After I get my defaults, I like to play around with increasing the VID to see if I can get higher P1/P2 temps. I increased it just a little to 1175 and the thermals went way high, like 80s, which is odd because with v21 I can run it at 1275mv in the low 70s. So I put it back to the default tested 1150mv and got an even worse result than what I got by testing! It hit mid 80s again then came back with 4400/4200 for CCX1/2. Why would there be such wildly different results in thermals/speeds in this case? Even stranger, is that I can set my P1 profile (which has the same OB values for CCX1 and 2) to 1225mv VID (up from the 1050mv default) and get FASTER speeds on BOTH CCX's than the P2 profile! Here's a link to a screenshot showing how my P1 profile was able to run faster than P2 at a higher voltage than P2. https://imgur.com/a/4muGp4j

Hello Yuri, Thanks for ur Work. CTR is the Greatest bit of Software for an Ryzen 5000 Owner. I have a Question: My P1 and P2 Profile are 4100MHz at 1000mV, but the idle profile is at 1.1 V. Is there a Chance to manually adjust the Voltage for the IDLE Profile? Greetz from Germany

@Yuri should we be clearing and starting diag & tuning fresh on each of these minor versions?

Danut Rotaru

As will be with every version clear and restart every time

https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/61571573 Firestrike on 3Dmark first time 36300! with sweetspot for graphics on my 5900x or maybe sweetspot for now because when i hit 4925mhz i got better graphics then when i push to 4950 or 5000mhz. Does this sounds logic? i dont know. But CTR2.0 works great for me! Thanks Yuri! Any Suggestion is high welcome! From Yuri and any of you guys! also the autostart was actually rootcause i was not waiting long enough! i belive! But Works Great!

1. Performance: since RC5v17, my 5950X is diagnosed for much less max clocks vs before. Since then, with every build I can easily set +0.2V and about +100-300Hz depending on the profile. On single core I noticed that PBO still had better results but that has lower priority for me. 2. Application: results are still missing - I assume it is because during OB as it suggests, it does reboot, and only afterwards "saving temp settings", so maybe the initial CB scores aren't saved so lost and unable to compare and draw the charts.

@deejay same for me here...

Autoload/save states bug is still there, not working after I restart. And many people reported it and you keep pointing us the guide when this is a bug with RC5... I managed to "fix" this adding a shortcut to startup windows 10 folder after I had it configured and enabled. Also getting the "weak cooling system detected" and alternative test method after restart with a custom water loop and 5950x. Back in RC4 diagnostic was working much better than now

I'm having issues getting LLC between 1.5 and 3.5 with my MSI Tomahawk. I'm getting 1.16 on Mode 4 or 3.6 with mode 5. Which would be preferable?

Hi guys, I installed ver22 but I have constantly restart my pc with ver 17 was everything OK, maybe change sthing in the bios?

Yuri - do we know what fixes/updates are in the new v23 release?

Rory O'Donnell

Yuri - can we patreons get version 23 please - the one with OB functionality !!

Rory O'Donnell

For ease of your understanding, OB can be converted to CO (or vice versa). 4 OB = 1 CO. That is, if you have CO 10 for the worst core (current CCX), you can calculate the OB for P1 and P2 very easily. 10 * 4 = 40. Or just trust OB caluclations.

Rory O'Donnell

typo in the recent documentation.. - trust OB caluclations ...calculations

hell no 5+ ghz and that clock on a 3090? custom loop? there is no way you can run that with 52* average on this level with air? :)) but i‘m impressed! well done sir!

iNerd

@Yuri since i have dark hero aswell - what is meaning from performance bias and what should be set there? leave it to auto? to none? or what do you suggest? Thanks

Been running ver.22 for awhile now, pretty heavy gaming and my system is running smooth and cool and with great FPS with whatever I throw at it. Big thanks again Yuri and Co!

Anonymous

yeah, i tried finally to run that ver. 22 again. Same thing kept happening. After diagnostic, it would just reboot the system, then reopen, then reboot the system the again and again... basically a cycle of this. So what i did was just take the results and input them into ver.15 and ver. 15 runs nicely. I've pretty much been staying on ver. 15 because it appears to be the most stable for my system.

What program can I use to test P2 Profile?

"Some users let warm air from the video card through the CPU AIO heatsink, thereby the video card heats the processor. Yes, I know that this is a user problem, but I want to help a little bit." Yes Trying to find a way around a similar problem by changing airflow direction. My 3090 backplate is very close to my noctua (air cool) cpu heat sink. I've noticed higher than expected cpu idle temps, and suspected for a while the GPU may be preventing some amount of CPU cooling. Again, not a CTR problem, but a user problem. :) RC5v.22 has worked great for me so far. I'm only wondering if my idle or low use voltages are low enough because it is averaging 1.22 with light load. Also big power reporting deviation in hwinfo with msi tomahawk x570 mag, 5900x, llc 5, 1.15, .95

1usmus

AMD has the quiescent state unlocked and the maximum VID can be 1.45. CTR - 1.1. In any case absolutely any profile can go to undervoltage mode even if you use VID 1.45. The real value may be 0.3V for example.

I'm using mode 5 on mine. A little vdroop is a good thing. 3.6 is really ok. Of course there are some performance advantages to using auto llc with the most recent rc6 v.13
