The Eclipse Episode 3

Ophelia

I meant to post this after the first episode, but I'll do it here. Basically any show with the Ray/Gaipa/Ayan actor (Khaotung) and/or Sand/Alan/Akk actor (First) is good! Haha! I agree that they stood out in the more emotional, serious scenes in Moonlight Chicken and Only Friends. They do a great job with carrying those more powerful, emotive storylines, which is why I really like this show as well. Some interesting things about this show (which to me adds a lot of the depth, importance of it) is that it was quite a political statement. The director of the show, Tanwarin Sukkhapisist or Golf, was the first-ever openly transgender member of parliament in Thailand, and the show was created and made by queer people, which wasn’t always the case in Thailand’s gay media. (A big reason why I liked Moonlight Chicken and Only Friends too though, they were created by queer people also) The show was definitely playing to the political/cultural climate of Thailand; the school system, the protesters, etc. being a large metaphor for society and queer culture in Thailand. There is definitely a reason why the ‘curse’ is more interested in the openly gay students, like the protesters, Ayan, Thua, even Dika. A lot of people don’t like this show, and I think it is largely due to not getting/understanding the metaphor and how it relates to queer culture, rather than just ‘school uniforms’, lol. The show recently won an award for Best Asian LGBTQ+ Program at the 2023 Content Asia Awards, which is pretty cool!
