In Extremis- Thank you so much for another fabulous reaction, Jessie! I really love this intense episode a lot! It certainly makes me love both Fusco and Carter even more than I already love them! :) First of all... Like I mentioned in my comments under the previous episode's post, it's so sad that Cal Beecher is killed at the end of the last episode. After all of Carter's worries and time thinking that he was corrupt like all of the other cops and detectives involved with HR, it turns out that he was a good man, and was killed for getting too close as he worked to investigate Detective Szymanski's frame up and murder, which was also another tragic death too. And I feel so bad for Carter, because she cares so much for Beecher, and she feels so guilty because she didn't trust him until it was too late. But I love Carter's determination throughout this episode to begin her investigation into Beecher's murder. I also absolutely love Fusco's role throughout this episode! After he has been very protective of Carter, this time it is Carter's turn to protect him from HR, as they finally try to take Fusco down. And I love that Carter even goes so far as to dig up and steal Stills' body with Bear's help, where Fusco had buried it in Oyster Bay way back after the events told within the Pilot episode, after Reese had killed Stills in order to protect two innocent men and a child from the Pilot's and this show's first ever "person of interest." Fusco has certainly proven himself to be a good man, who has tragically fallen in with the wrong cops simply because of loyalty. Because they preyed on Fusco's vulnerability after his wife told him she wanted a divorce and full custody of his son, whom Fusco loves more than anyone and anything in this world. And these real dirty detectives forced Fusco to fall under their control, subtlety at first, only for Fusco's involvement only grew. And in this episode's flashbacks... You can see how much Fusco hates himself for falling in with these men, in spite of his obligation he feels to remain loyal to the men who so called "helped him" when he needed them most. Fusco is absolutely a character that I have grown to love, and whom I have loved ever since the beginning. And I absolutely love Kevin Chapman's portrayal of this character! A fantastic actor! But I think that for the fans of this show who might not feel the same way about Fusco from the beginning... I think this episode should most certainly prove just how much he's changed and that he is one hundred percent loyal to Reese, Finch, and Carter. Fusco could easily have snitched on Reese in order to try to save himself, given that Reese killed Stills and put the other dirty cop in prison. But Fusco doesn't. He remains completely loyal to Reese too, because he cares about Reese and Finch. They're his real friends. And I love this about Fusco. Sadly, Fusco doesn't believe he's a good man any longer, and I feel so badly for him because he was pulled into becoming a corrupt cop at a time when he was most vulnerable after these corrupt detectives befriended him, having given him a friend when he most needed it upon being thrown out of the house by his wife, who had threatened to take his son away from him too. I just feel so bad for him. And in regards to Carter and her involvement in helping Fusco... I absolutely understand why she struggles so much with choosing to help him, and I feel so badly for her because we can see her pain and guilt upon falling outside of her morals once again to help another friend. And she does inevitably help Fusco, upon hearing Reese's words to her on the phone towards the end. Carter has definitely grown to care deeply for Reese in spite of the missteps Reese and Finch have made in their alliance. And upon Carter hearing John admit his faults and mistakes, I think it's what allows her to see past Lionel's mistakes as well. Because deep down... She does know her partner. She knows he's changed for the better and that he's now a good man who would do anything to protect her too. She cares about him as well. She and Fusco are absolutely like brother and sister. I love it!! Oh... And I love that Carter asks Finch for Bear's help to remove Stills' body from the grave, and seeing her then place the police file and photo of Cal Beecher down in front of Fusco, as her way of pleading with him for help to find out who's truly responsible for his and Szymanski's deaths. And yes... Fusco most certainly owes Carter. Very much so. Absolutely brilliant! As for the main storyline involving Reese helping Dr. Nelson to solve his own murder before he dies from being poisoned with radiation... I really love this heartbreaking storyline! It's very sad. And I love Reese's determination to help this doctor. Not only to help him solve who had him killed, but also to help put his affairs in order before he dies. I also just really love that Reese helps Nelson to be able to confront the men who had him killed and to make things right between him and his daughter. And then... The biggest shock to me in this episode, is seeing Reese standing beside Nelson's killer with a wine bottle in his hands once blood begins to drip from the killer's nose, revealing that Reese had slipped the same poison into the killer's drink. Showing him basically murder the man. It is wrong of Reese to do, but at the same time... This ending is oh so satisfying, knowing the killer is going to suffer the same fate as the good man he killed first. Overall... This is a fabulous, and heartbreaking episode that I love very much! So, thank you again, my friend! Like always... I can't wait for more reactions from you to come! Until then... Sincerely, Heidi
