charlie hasn’t told tao and elle about nick being his “boyfriend”. as far as they know, nick is just someone charlie has a crush on and it’s not requited. they don’t know anything about their relationship other than they are friends. tao feels like nick is playing a joke on him by being his friend and potentially playing with his feelings but he doesn’t have all the facts at all. nick accepting the date and their reaction is more about them thinking charlie is gonna be hurt his crush is going on a date with someone else. i could never blame nick for wanting to keep it a secret. i don’t even think it’s mainly about not being ready to come out at this point. obviously there’s that pressure but i think it’s more so that this is all brand new and he is still trying to figure out his own sexuality before making any declarations and charlie seems to be okay with that. nick asks him over and over if it’s okay because he worries what it could do to charlie but just like charlie told ben in episode 1, if he’s figuring out his sexuality, he’s fine with him taking his time and he would have been there for him. it’s the way ben was treating him that was the actual problem. episodes 5 and 6 are my fav episodes so super excited for those coming up! it’s been so fun to rewatch these with you.

It's definitely more so the way Charlie is being treated that's the problem, but I also think while he is still figuring things out because he's confused, the fact that he's terrified over the thought of coming out plays a big role. When he asks Charlie to keep it a secret he can't even say the words come out as anything at first. My poor babies I want to hug and protect them both!
