Best Laid Plans- Yay! Another fantastic reaction for a great episode! Thank you so much, Jessie!!! I really enjoy this episode a lot. It's not another of my favorites and to be perfectly honest... my heart hurts a little after watching this episode every time because I always feel the bitter disappointment in Snow/Mary Margaret and Charming/David, who I have loved so much since the beginning. But this doesn't mean I love them any less now, or that I don't love the twist with seeing them show a bit of darkness too. Because it gives something more to their characters that make them feel more human because they certainly have made some big mistakes, and it also adds to the storyline of Snow's heart being dark since season two's episode... The Miller's Daughter, when she helps to kill Cora. It's just that after this episode, I can't help but feel about them as I did back in season one, when David and Mary Margaret were cheating on poor Kathryn under the curse. In fact... I feel worse about them now than I did even then because at least then, they were all cursed. Because what they do to Maleficent and Lily is so much worse. In this storyline... they have no such excuse for their actions. They are certainly a bit naïve to believe that they weren't harming a real child, just because she might be born in dragon form. And given that Maleficent is half human, half dragon... of course her child would be too. Ugh... However, first... one of my favorite moments throughout this entire episode, is the moment inside the Charmings' loft when Killian comes to the Charmings to warn them about what Ursula told him of Gold's plans for Emma in the last episode... Poor Unfortunate Soul. I love how fearful Killian is for Emma when he tells her, her parents, and Henry that Gold plans to darken Emma's heart given that he understands the darkness better than almost anyone other than Rumplestiltskin. You can certainly see his fear and worry for Emma in his eyes. And I love how Emma assures Killian that no one can decide her fate but her, especially not Gold or some Author. I love seeing Emma comfort Killian. It's just a beautiful and tender moment between them. I love it. :) As for the present day storyline... I like all of the scenes between each of the villains as they're still working together to find the page after Regina shows them a picture of it on her phone. I love how quickly Gold is able to sense Regina's deceptions, then eventually just gets fed up with her continuous lies and asks Maleficent to put her to sleep as well. It's not good, but I still love seeing the villains working together. I also really love another moment between Emma and Killian, as Killian shows a slight bit of jealousy over Emma's friendship with August, because a part of him worries she might have feelings for him as well, like Emma also once felt for Neal. I can't blame Killian for worrying about Emma's feelings for August after how she treated him while struggling with her feelings for Neal too. And Killian has always been so uncertain by Emma's feelings for him and with believing that he is deserving of her feelings for him. So... I really do think Killian's worry and hint of jealously towards August is justified and not weird at all. Also... I love how Killian calls August a "wooden man child" and how Emma assures Killian that she and August are simply good friends like she wished she had been with Lily. A very cute moment. I love how it's shown that Henry, David, and Mary Margaret are all immune to Maleficent's sleeping spell because each of them had once been trapped under a sleeping curse. Henry and Snow shown within season one, and David in season two. Very clever idea. And I just love that Henry is smart enough to take the page and the storybook to the mansion where he could keep the page and the book safe upon seeing that everyone's fallen asleep. Unfortunately, everyone else including Emma and Killian were put to sleep though, and that's not good. In regards to Maleficent putting everyone to sleep, and the confusion a lot of fans of this show has had in regards to a sleeping curse versus a sleeping spell, as well as upon thinking that everyone would find their way into the black room above the room on fire like David did shown back in season two's episode, Into the Deep... Maleficent only puts everyone to sleep through a sleeping spell, where they are all actually simply asleep. A sleeping spell is far different from a sleeping curse, which is what Snow, Charming, Henry, and Aurora were all once trapped under. A sleeping curse puts them into a much deeper sleep after they prick their finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel or eat a poisoned apple of sorts, where they show all signs of being dead, but while they're trapped within the black room until True Love's Kiss awakens them, after which they dream of the room on fire. True Love's Kiss is required for a person to be awakened from a sleeping curse. Whereas a sleeping spell eventually wears off over time. This is the kind of spell seen in the Disney movie... Sleeping Beauty, when the three fairies put everyone throughout the kingdom asleep so they can be asleep so long as Aurora is trapped under her curse. I hope all this makes sense. And a sleeping spell is what Gold had put Belle under in the Frozen arc. Not a sleeping curse. This is why she is asleep in this episode, and why all Gold had to do to wake Belle before was simply wake her. Next... I love that Henry understands Regina's meaning behind her look she gives him once she, Maleficent, and Cruella arrive at the mansion to take the page, which Henry then switches with Emma's forgery knowing that the villainesses wouldn't be clever enough to know it was a fake until Gold gets his hands on it. And unfortunately for Regina, he does know right away. I also really love how Henry is able to discover and find the key within the desk at the mansion, upon seeing a light shine from behind the door within the page, as it shines upon the drawer with the key hidden inside, showing us that the Author is trying to get Henry's attention in the hope that he or someone will finally let him out. As for David's and Mary Margaret's constant lying throughout the episode, and seeing David get angry with Henry... while this part of their story is necessary in order to show the consequences from what's seen throughout the backstory, I still can't help but feel disappointed in David and Mary Margaret like I mentioned above. While I love their overall storyline that shows us the terrible mistakes they made that only helped to darken Mary Margaret's heart as was shown back in season two's episode... Welcome to Storybrooke, I still hate feeling the disappointment in two of my favorite characters. Because I truly love them so much. Thankfully, Mary Margaret finally does see sense and tells David that they have to finally tell Emma the truth about what they've done to Maleficent and her child, all for Emma's sake. Which is definitely the right call of action. And yes... Emma is angry. Beyond angry. In fact... this is the angriest with her parents that she has ever been and you can absolutely see the anger and disappointment on her face and in her eyes. And Emma's line to her mother after this conversation, as Mary Margaret pleads with Emma not to go and that she's her mother, to which Emma darkly states, "I don't care."... it's the very same line that young Emma within Snow's vision of her says too, just as she rips out her mother's heart and then crushes it. Ooh... not good. Could this be the beginning of a big turn in Emma? In regards to Emma's reaction to her parents' dark secret... As much as her anger towards them hurts me, I do feel it's most certainly justified. David and Mary Margaret have lied to her over and over, and have been for some time now ever since the Queens of Darkness have arrived in Storybrooke. And Emma has struggled deeply with trusting anyone her whole life. Since she broke the first dark curse in season one, Emma has counted on her parents more than anyone to always be truthful with her. She's always depended on them more than anyone else, until she's come to trust in and depend on Killian too. So their deception hurts her very deeply. However, for Emma it's a little more than that too. For Emma... she sees her parents as Snow White and Prince Charming as they are, and they are believed by the whole world and their own world to be some of the greatest of heroes. So for Emma to learn that they could do something so dark, that winds up hurting an innocent child and her mother even though her mother is Maleficent... it changes a lot of what she's believed about her parents for a long time now. And it is heartbreaking. An interesting detail about Jennifer Morrison... the actress suffers from severe migraines and has for many years. But during the filming of this Queens of Darkness arc, Jennifer really suffered from them a lot more for whatever reasons were for her migraines worsening. This is why she looks so ill, or red eyed throughout her scenes since this arc has begun, especially in this episode in particular. And strangely enough... her looking so ill actually works, because you can really see the anger towards her parents in Emma's eyes, as well as the potential for darkness beginning to come out. So, her illness... as tragic as it is because I certainly feel terrible for her that she suffered so much from her migraines, actually works in her favor to help bring out the look of darkness and anger within her face and her expressions. Now... I also really love the moment when Killian comes to Emma afterwards to comfort her, and pulls Emma close to him to hold her. It's really beautiful, and one more reason why I love them. Why they're my absolute favorite True Love couple. :) And then... we have another revelation, as we learn that Maleficent's daughter within the real world, is Emma's old friend, Lily. I didn't see that coming at all even though I should have, and I love that this episode brings back a number of nearly forgotten storylines we might not have thought to be so important at the time. Very clever. And I really love this big revelation with Lily being Maleficent's child a lot. Onto the backstory... I also really enjoy the slow building revelation of how it was Snow and Charming had wronged Maleficent so terribly. It's tragic and I hate what they did to her and Lily, but I do really love their overall storyline a lot. I worried that their mistake wouldn't be worth all the hype the creators and writers put into this storyline that has been building up for several episodes now. But I am happy to say that I am happily satisfied. Next... I love that we get to know more about the Sorcerer's Apprentice too, and how he makes it possible for Snow and Charming to ensure Emma was born pure and good. Tragically, he curses Maleficent's child with all of Emma's potential darkness, then causes for the child to be forced into another world where she can't be a threat to anyone... the Land Without Magic, or our world. And I love that we also learn how both Ursula and Cruella came to be trapped in our world as well, after they both fall through the portal in trying to protect Maleficent's baby for her. Brilliant! Also... I really love the scene towards the end between Snow and Charming in spite of all they've done, as Snow shares with Charming that the unicorn mobile we've seen in past episodes hanging above Emma's crib is a reminder to them of what they've done, but that it's also there to remind them to be better and to offer hope and strength to everyone around them as they strive to become the heroes again that we know and love them to be. And then... we have another of my favorite moments within the very end, as we finally get to meet the Author, who turns out to have been the peddler we were introduced to earlier on within the backstory, who lead Snow and Charming to the Apprentice. I love that in spite of her parents plea with her to not free him just yet, that Emma does so anyways, and I love the look of shock on the Charmings' faces when they realize who he is. A small part of me wishes that the Author is either someone we've known from throughout the show so far, which could have resulted in a much bigger reveal and twist, or that the creators and writers would have chosen to develop his character a little more throughout this season without revealing him as the Author until this episode. But with this being said... I more so absolutely love this revelation with the Author being a new character that I am excited for you to get to know. I like him a lot. He's a very interesting character. But most of all... I absolutely love learning through August just how much power the Author has and just how much he has manipulated the Charmings, as well as the Apprentice too, into harming Maleficent's child simply because according to him, it makes for a better story. I love that the Author has the power to change anyone's story through his power and the storybooks that he writes, instead of simply recording history like he is meant to do, and that sadly... this Author has chosen to use his gift for his own selfish reasons. I love seeing the moment when the Apprentice traps him inside the page. And on top of it all... I absolutely love how August explains that the Author is a title that is passed down from person to person and that it has been the Sorcerer and his Apprentice who appoints the new Authors over all the years. And lastly... I love, love, love how August shares that the Author has been a number of people from poets, to playwrights... which could possibly mean he was indicating that great writers throughout history such as William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens might have been Authors who were chosen too. However, another of my favorite things about this episode is the moment August shares that one Author was a man named Walt... meaning that Walt Disney himself had been a former Author in this world, which is why the Land Without Magic knows all of these fairytales through his stories shown in his movies. Absolutely brilliant!!! I love how this show's creators and writers have been able to tie Walt Disney and his beautiful imagination and creativity, into Once Upon a Time, by making him a character in his own right. Walt Disney is a man I admire for all the good and joy he's created for us over time. I love it!!! Overall... I really enjoy this episode. Thank you again, so much for your reaction, Jessie! I can't wait for more like always!! Until your next reaction... Sincerely, Heidi

I loved your reaction, it’s one of my favorite story arcs. The thing with the author is when he was in the middle of writing what snow and charming did to malificent he said he did it because it makes for a more better story. So it makes you think he didn’t do it to get back at malificent, but maybe he wanted to take charge and write his own story. Also this maybe kind of mean but you could say that karma came and bit snow and charming in the ass for what they did because the curse was cast, there happy ending was destroyed and they lost there daughter too for 28 years.

The author didn´t actually live in that village. So it wasn´t a personal thing against Maleficent. The author is basically similar to the Watcher´s in Marvel. They are only supposed to observe and write down the events. So him living in this village was only a cover for him to be around there and to observe the events. Or in his case specifically he was there to push Snow and David in the direction of the Apprentice so his story would work out. His sole motivation for doing the thing with the spell to Maleficens child was that he thought it would be a better/more interesting story.

About Regina erasing Henry's memory - I think you're mixing together when she erased his memory at the end of S2 and when she erased her own memories in the SB flashback of when she adopted him - because the first one was not a good thing. If you don't remember because it's been a while - she was planning to use the failsafe and kill everyone in town and run away with Henry (and only switched sides because she was betrayed) and she admitted it straight to his face and then erased his memory of that conversation..which is something I have an issue with since it hasn't been addressed The reason I take issue with that is Henry is technically a different character after that moment. Henry had given her a chance to be redeemed and when she didn't like what he had to say she erased his memory basically cheating and staying in his good graces. If she hadn't done that, Henry's opinion of her at the end of S2 would have been different.

such a good episode!! i’m also not sure why emma was so mad at them. i totally understand her getting upset and mad at them, but she just looked a lot more angry than i would have imagined her to be. but, i love the parallel of mary margaret saying “i’m your mother” and emma responding with “i don’t care” in both the scene where she finds out about the lie and when snow was seeing emma’s future. i think that was really cool, i just wish there was more of a reason for her to be that upset. i felt so bad for henry when he wanted to open the door with the key but david snapped back at him. i understand that david has a lot on him right now, but henry was so excited and proud of himself, i just felt so bad. i can’t wait for the next episode!! like i said in my last comment, theres a lot coming! thank you so much for the video, see you next time!❤️

You've come a long way from Season 1. You're getting really good at calling out these plot twists before they happen. As soon as you said, "Are you the author?", I got this huge grin on my face. I cant wait for the next plot twist. It's a real doozy, even bigger than the 'author' or 'Lily' reveal. You'll know exactly what it is when it happens. ;)

That's a really good point! Karma is strong, especially int hat world, so I think what they did to Malificent definitely had an impact on that. Glad they learned from their mistakes and told Emma, unfortunately it was too late. Can't wait to see what happens with that!

Jessie Dobbie Reactions

Yes, the end of season 2 is what I was talking about. I agree that it was awful! But in Regina's mind she thought it was for his benefit. It's the length to which she will go to keep Henry close that is her addiction. That's a great point, I forgot that that had never been addressed and you are correct, it really does change Henry's character!

Jessie Dobbie Reactions

The "I’m your mother" line got me with just how she said it, but I actually didn't realize she had said the same line in the flash back! Thank you for pointing that out because that makes it so much more impactful. But I agree, I think she got way too angry, like scary angry and it wasn't necessary for her to have escalated that fast. I felt really bad when David did that too, I don't think we have ever seen him act that aggressively to Henry and it was uncomfortable and sad to watch. I'm so excited to Once, hehe, again be nearing the end of a season because I know chaos and excitement are ahead! Until next week, have a great week!

Figuring out stuff in movies and shows is a satisfaction unlike any other, I am glad you enjoyed that with me LOL I can't wait for the next plot twist!

You are seriously too smart. Your reactions were so on point, and I loved it. lol I honestly loved the concept of the Author. So much so that I made my own "Author" character for a creative story I wrote my senior year lol The Author forced the Apprentice to transfer the darkness into Lily to make a "good story." He liked to write fiction as opposed to record history and events.
