Hi everyone! I just got back from the physiotherapy. It was only a couple of days but i feel like it's been forever! I'll be cutting this hugging and greeting session short- to inform you about something going on in the sims community.

As i've been briefly informed (and looked into it for more detailed information myself), the sims community is being targeted by some maliciously intended people. So, what are these people doing?

  • They are hacking modders' accounts to allegedly "update" their mods, while actually uploading a malware, and showing it as "update".
  • This malware causes some small issues, as small as you won't notice until you hit a rock.
  • They steal your critical information, take control of your computer and so on.

BUT it's UP TO YOU to protect yourself from this malicious malwares. Here's how you do it:

  • First, have an antivirus program!
  • Take yourself into quarantine for a while, atleast until things being settled and more information available from the "tech" people. Approach things with caution and don't download everything you see.
  • DO NOT download ANYTHING from piracy groups. Even though most people just upload whatever they downloaded to these places, they still have to download it themselves first. Meaning, the second they finish downloading, the downloaded file can be effected. Meaning, they can upload the file with contamination without knowingly.
  • DO NOT download any new mod unless it is from a known modder and it has to be their original upload to their original page. Small modders or the modders that are on hiatus likely more common targets. For the moment, 4 mods are knowingly effected. These are: S*cial Ev*nts by MySims4 - W*ather and F*recast Che*ts by MSQSims - S*asons Che*ts by MSQSims - C*lt Mod by PimpMySims / If you have downloaded any of these, delete them IMMEDIATELY and run a full virus scan on your computer.
  • Let's say, you use X mod from a very known creator. They updated their mod with shiny new features and they are very appealing to play with. Well, DO NOT download it immediately. Wait atleast 1 or 2 weeks after the update, so that you will know if it's effected or hacked or not, by the other users who are willing to try beforehand. Comparing the safety vs all information being stolen, looks like 1 or 2 weeks of waiting WAY more worth.
  • Thanks to Twistedmexi, they created a mod malware protection script- which finds and informs you if you have any malware within your mods folder. You can download it from their patreon and see more information.
  • What is "a mod file" and what is "a cc file"? MOD FILE is, the game altering scripts. For example: WW, TOOL, Better Build, UI Cheats etc. These are MODS which comes with a script file and their name ends with .ts4script (these are the target for the moment). CC FILE is, all the cosmetics. Makeups, outfits, accessories, furnitures, sliders and so on are package files and they end with .package (for now, these seems to be completely fine).
  • Protect yourself from FALSE information. Do not believe everything you see, before confirming it from more informed people.

If you have downloaded mods (script mods) earlier, you don't have to delete them because you are safe (except the said 4 mods above. if you have these hacked 4 mods, delete them). But wait some time before updating them in the future. :)

What am i doing to protect your safety, while you are downloading my sims from my page?

I have 2 different and licensed antivirus programs for the past 2 years. I scan EVERYTHING i upload to patreon. So this is not new to me. I've been scanning every sim upload since the past 2 years. I also NEVER include script files. I only include ccs, which are safe at the moment. The sims you are downloading from me are safe ♥

If you have anything to ask, you can ask and i'll try to answer if i know the answer. You can also visit the Sims After Dark Discord Server for more information, as it seems they covered a lot of information- that is being known at the moment.

Take care of yourself and stay safe! ♥

You're most welcome! Make sure to download the ModGuard from the link above. It may help you a lot to put a wall between the malware and your safety.

TwistedMexi updated the ModGuard. I suggest you to download and replace the new version :)
