Dorthea was my neighbor! I remember when the police were there doing the digging and she wandered off. It was ridiculous, and you're right, Kat; they did look like the Keystone Cops. No one could believe they just let her walk away. Also, that neighborhood bar you talked about? It was a total dive. It was right on the corner but I never went in. I was afraid I'd get murdered or dysentery or something. Plus, I was only 19 at the time. It was the 80s though so I'm sure I'd have gotten away with it. I never did get to meet the lovely Dorthea, but I did pet her cat on my daily walks. Oh, one more thing... There was a vacant lot right across the street from her house. I wonder if the police ever dug there?

Btw, thanks for doing this one. I learned so much about this that I didn't know! JG read a letter that I sent you all about this a couple of years ago, but other than the basic facts, I was woefully ignorant about the details. I have recent pictures of the house. The current owners have a pretty good sense of humor about it all. They even have a mannequin on the porch of Dorthea holding a shovel. I'll see if I can dig those up (ha! pun totally intended).

One time I ordered groceries from HEB in mid 2020 when grocery supplies were still a little unpredictable. They didn't have any tofu so they subbed egg roll wrappers....? Like... A LOT of them. I got 2 jumbo packs of egg roll wrappers but I didn't have anything to put in them 🤷‍♀️
