In the original rainbow flag design from 1978, the third stripe was orange and it was meant to represent healing.

As the model for orange, Nik stands for moving on from the past, acknowledging your mistakes and your pain, but forgiving yourself and others, and rebuilding yourself into a better person. For him, Pride is about fighting against your trauma, refusing to let the bullies, the hate, and the bigotry destroy you. It's about learning to never hide your scars without letting them define you.

So orange stands for healing, yes, but more importantly, it stands for accepting that you need to heal. It's okay to be hurt and it's okay that you have bad days, and worse days too, but never forget that there's more to you than suffering.
