Rogue Maverick

This will be a long comment because I wanted to mention some things from a few episodes ago. In the episode where the tree falls and breaches Hilltop, we see a reference to season 4. We see that Michonne and Judith are slicing walkers with their swords. In season 4, when the fences at the prison breaks, Rick and Carl shoot the walkers together. It's nice to see that the children take after their parents. Rick taught Carl to shoot, and Michonne taught Judith to use a sword. In the episode where Negan gets out, we are reminded that Negan does not like or condone the harming or killing of women and children unless absolutely necessary. We also got introduced to a copycat Lucille. We later saw Daryl's back. The big X on his upper back is not the brand from the murder children, that scar is lower down. The big one is from his father before the apocalypse. I do believe that Dante did actually develop a friendship with Siddiq, but he had no choice when Siddiq found out that Dante was a Whisperer. Dante also did not realize that Siddiq was a doctor before going undercover. In the last episode we are seeing that Carol is running purely on hate and revenge. She is not thinking clearly. Now onto this episode. First, Carol did mention that she is claustrophobic back in season 1 at the CDC. She seemed nervous that the facility was underground. To be clear she more alluded to it rather than stating it. Daryl knows what it is like to want to hurt someone because they hurt someone you care about. He felt that way with Negan after he killed Abraham. Daryl's anger led to the death of Glenn. He was trying to save Carol from the same fate, but she didn't listen and now we lost Magna and Connie. The actor that played Jerry thought Jerry was going to die in this episode when he read the script. He stated "Well at least I will block the hole" which would prevent walkers from getting to the others. The reason he didn't take off his armor sooner was because he is in a hostile environment and he wants to be protected. It was interesting to see Negan fear for his life. He basically started saying that his whole "I am Negan" thing was an act. Something he had to do to keep people alive. That is similar to when Ezekiel was explaining the fantasy of the Kingdom to Carol, it's a facade, but it keeps people alive. This season took so long to air, Covid and the lockdown happened which extended the season significantly. I might comment the delays when we get to those episodes.
