Hell yeah! Not a lot of people react to this cuz it's "slow", but it's like quintessential sci-fi if you're into sci-fi. I love everything about it, and yeah the Final Cut is my definitive cut of the film. "Like tears in rain" - incredible line.

Thought you guys would never watch this. This movie started a whole genre, cyberpunk, that is still going strong today.

Never cared for Blade Runner, not my cup of tea, but I appreciate that it has its fans. Not everything has to be for me.

My favourite movie of all time. Slow and cerebral, so a lot of people don't like it on the first time watching. Unfortunately the sex scene was cut pretty badly, they talked about it in the documentary, it was originally much more tender and explicitly consensual. Though I understand that Deckard and Rachael's reactions aren't clear. She's scared of her feelings and he's in a way angry for being a Blade Runner attracted to what he is supposed to kill. Batty stuck the nail in his hand to shock his body and try to carry on a little longer. I also love the scene where he revels in the rain, the stuff we take for granted. Also note that it's the same as Deckard's hand :P the parallels between Deckard and Batty are a central piece of the discussion of the film. And one can't ignore the Christ analogy with the nail through the hand either :P Batty lived his whole brief moment of existence in terror of his lifespan, and the last moment of the film, where he saves a life for the first time, and makes a decision entirely by himself, not dictated by others. More human than human. What a character. RIP Rutger Hauer Also note that Batty is pretty childish. he's rash and emotional and like a feral child backed in a corner but with a lot of power strength and anger to go with it, even how he frowns is like a little boy. The final chase is like a deadly children's game too. Not only does it reaffirm that Batty is only 4 years old, it does add a creepiness and threatening level to him, seeing what appears to be a grown man acting in such a childish manner. Another key point of discussion for the film is Deckard. Is he human? Or could he be a Replicant himself? There's plenty of evidence on both sides, though Ridley Scott gave a definitive answer for it. Personally I find the answer unnecessary, the ambiguity of Deckard is the point. He's a cold and ruthless killer like the Replicants he retires. And he discovers humanity through his pursuit of the escaped Nexus 6s and with Rachael. Much like Roy Batty's evolution. As Phillip K Dick (the writer for the book) said, the humans are becoming more like androids, and the androids are becoming more human. Deckard has to posit the question if there is a difference between him and them, and if there isn't, who is he in the end? Remember the unicorn dream, and the origami figure, could Gaff see his dreams, does that mean Deckard's dreams are implanted? There was also a cut line from Gaff after "You did a man's work", which was "But are you a man?" which adds more to the pile of this movies thematic mystery. Good decision to keep it cut though in my opinion. Some little info about the world, from the book the movie is based off: The world through nuclear war and catastrophe is mostly uninhabitable, so off world colonies is encouraged, but only if you're genetically viable, and rich, so the poor and sick are left behind. This is why the building is empty, now they're many empty buildings. With lots of empty rooms :( Meanwhile, animal populations are very low, and now animal rights are taken seriously (hence reporting an animal skin wallet to the police) animals are now a status symbol, with poor people only able to afford android imitations. Much care is taken to make sure they're indistinguishable from the real thing, and maintenance companies masquerade themselves as vets to protect the clients from embarrassment. It's not very polite to ask if somebodies pet is real or not. In the book Deckard owns an electric sheep. Sorry for the long comment, I just really love this movie :P

Finally, a good movie for a rainy night :). Hopefully this will make me forget the bad taste out of the latest Matrix whatever that was.
