Excited for this reaction. I love the first 75% of this movie, the ending was a big letdown for me.

Lovely discussion at the end. Glad Mom and Kim enjoyed it so much. Thanks for picking these often requested but never winning movies as of late. I have really been enjoying them.

Another surprise reaction which is good to see. A good sci-fi film that makes you think.

Wonderful reaction. Such a good movie too. I really do wished the aliens, or whatever talked to Fosters character gave more info. Or some proof. Haha but the ending scene she’s sitting beside the cliff, you can see she’s changed her poster. She wasn’t sitting closed in, holding herself with grief looking down. She sat more open, comfortable and content while gazing the distance. I always liked that small detail.

I love this movie. The "For Carl" at the end was out of respect for Carl Sagan. He was a very influential astronomer but he wrote the novel Contact.

Lee Salvemini

Wow cooool! A fantastic movie, really unique and has some great themes

This was my first Jodie Foster movie. And Matthew Mcconaughey is so young here. haha You know you should put True Detective in the TV series polls. He was brilliant there.

What a great reaction. And between the surprise reaction to CONTACT and the surprise reaction to PASSENGERS a couple weeks ago, Christmas has come early for me. Watching this again with you, I was reminded of what a great actress Jodie Foster is, especially during that final passionate monologue at the hearing. An interesting footnote to this movie is that there was some minor controversy when it was released due to their featuring Bill Clinton so heavily. (His "appearances" were largely just speeches he'd actually given, just taken out of context to fit the story.) Some people questioned the ethics of using a sitting President to make it seem like he was participating in or endorsing something he wasn't. Using Clinton was actually the one main thing I didn't care for. Not so much for the ethical questions, but every time he showed up, it was a minor distraction. It dated the story, and it made you wonder what tricks Zemeckis was using, instead of letting you just be absorbed in the drama. I know Zemeckis did similar stuff in Forrest Gump, but I felt that was different. In Gump's case, the usage of Presidents was intentionally meant to "date" specific periods in American history, and the outrageousness was played for comedy.

After all the times I’ve seen this film you brought up a good point Storm I never considered before. U asked at the end did Ellie make up her whole experience because she wanted to believe it was real which I never picked up as a call back to when she asked the same question to Palmer about the experience that brought him to God. I never made that connection before but yes I do believe she traveled to Vega and beyond.
