You can see how much Helen has influenced John, with her leap of faith spiel. And you can see how much Jack, the man of science, is being tested based on the things happening he cant explain with science. And John wanted Jack , the most strident pessimist, to be complicit in the button pressing, as an article of faith. Also recall that the phone sex operator John talks to early in a first season flash back is also named Helen. Not the same woman, but to me he had a fondness for her based on her name. Also, why 108 minutes? Add all the numbers together. All the numbers re-appear in ways you will probably never notice.

I watched a few episodes and gave up. Later I heard from many people that it led nowhere and 'lost' it's way (pun intended). There are much better shows around to watch, Dexter for example is a must see.

I usually find Jack a bit... much... but I gotta say, here in this scenario, I would probably have exactly the same reaction he did. That part where he was screaming at Desmond and Locke, like he was being driven mad by how irrational the situation is -- relatable.

You might want to edit that last part out so they can figure it out themselves.
