I very much enjoyed this reaction. Like Dawn, I'd only seen parts of this movie before, but nothing from the second half. This was great. SPOILER... SPOILERS: So, I guess the "flashbacks" of her daughter throughout were actually "flash forwards" from Amy Adams' later life. It was through her dealings with the aliens that she was able to see her own future (and use that future knowledge to help herself in the present). So when her daughter was drawing pictures like "Mommy and Daddy talk to aliens," or making clay sculptures of the aliens, the daughter wasn't predicting the future. By this time, her parents were already famous as the people who talked to the aliens and saved/united humanity. END SPOILERS: I am loving the "surprise" reactions. The movies are often more interesting, and for me, they're the main attraction of the channel. (Having said that, I *am* very much looking forward to Speed. That movie's just a romp.)

This movie made me realize that no matter how bad or ugly its reputation, (good) politics is needed. There's some things that can't be explained easily and not everyone can quickly understand that.

Thanks so much for getting to this. I think this is the best movie of the last decade. The Direction and Writing are just on a totally different level. If you love this I highly recommend watching Denis Villeneuve's other films. He's the best director working today and every one of his films are just as dense and beautiful as Arrival

Not since i frist saw Close Encounters of the Third Kind back in the 80s has a sci-fi film filled me with such awe. Gravity might be the exception.

Beautiful movie. Idea, cinematography, music, acting. Everything is excellent. I call it aliens movie not about aliens. About understanding, compromise, inevitability, acceptance of what life is.

You should watch District 9 for perspective. That's regarding you talking that if aliens arrive, this means they are more advanced :)

As she was explaining to the colonel, their weapon/gift was language, which gives ability to see time/future. As she was getting deeper and deeper into their language, she started to see time like they did.

Every time I rewatch this movie I'm reminded that I forgot how good it is. It's funny, though, I didn't quite understand it the first time so I read it's plots wikipedia immediately after and I think mixed that wiki together with the films dialogue and I imagined scenes in the film which don't actually exist! Like I thought I remembered a scene where (spoiler........) The dad is actually being told the secret thing Amy Adam's knew from the beginning that he didn't want to hear before they had their child, rather than us watching her tell her daughter that fact.

Not sure if you can really call Gravity sci-fi though. Maybe technically, but it's pretty "real world'.
