I personally didn't really get invested in the show until this episode where his flashback tied in during the Clone War era of the timeline. I hate how Disney ignores the prequel era of the timeline when there is so much they could tell instead of the same old Death Star, Darth Vader, Rebels, etc. plotlines. Plus I really like how his upgraded armor in this episode looked all nice and shiny like Jango's did in Episode 2

His flashback was in the clone wars and was a separatist battle droid who open the door.

To answer your question, yes the big Mando with the big gun at the end was the same one the main character fought with earlier. The big Mando is played by Jon Favreau himself, the writer and creator of the series. He also directed some of the episodes. He's "Happy" from the Iron Man movies, which he also wrote.
