The minotaur king and the prince know the truth. They know what they saw was real, but to acknowledge it would challenge their entire people's sense of honor and therefore challenge all that they believe. It's easier to commit war crimes on a people when you don't recognize them as a people.

Alvin Baena

Great storytelling!

Hail Pratchett :)

Peter Bruckback

Thanks for the chapter! I was fully expecting Minos: Muscle-head edition to be them trolling at the camp bar.

Fitty Sebum

Hmmm. Is the Minotaur king a friend of goblins? Both leaders in the battle interrupted their champions about to strike a devastating blow...Are goblins descended from Elves (aaaannndd maybe vampires becausered eyes??)? Can you only be a natural ally with people (never monsters)? Some things in life we just never know...

The minotaur king is the most honourable minotaur so depending on how much she knows/accepts about goblins she might only want to prevent goblin kings from being created. I think the summoning spell that Rhir found was originally use to bring the goblins to innverse. They fought against the gods and were cursed by them. They can't enter the afterlife and gaining the king class drives them insane. They do share the trait that if one parent is a goblin/elf then the child will get most of there traits from that parent so I could be wrong here. Mrsha has the natural ally (fortress beaver) skill if I remember correctly.

They prince doesn’t believe and the king doesn’t have enough evidence. Moreover the king needs enough evidence not only to convince her subjects but the rest of the world as well, lest she meet the fate of one who listens to the demons diplomats.

Alan McBrayer

I wouldn't call her a friend of goblins. I'd say minotaur king is an honorable woman who respects her enemy and actively tests her preconceived notions about them. Mrsha has [Natural Allies: Fortress Beavers] and Rags has [Natural Allies: Ogres] so I'd say you can be natural allies with "monsters" because the beavers are smart but are not people. I'd guess the goblins were a fey race that was friends to the elves and the frost faeries.

Alan McBrayer

I think I know what drives kings mad. The living people born in the world of innverse after the death of the gods can't believe in living gods. (Az'kerash being the exception) The knowledge alone kills them or forces them to forget. The leader of a goblin tribe can remember the lives of past goblins. The larger the tribe and the greater the class (chieftain

The Goblins are from innverse. There's no evidence that they aren't. The Earthers are not from innverse and still go to the same afterlife. The reason they go insane is because they remember the war between the gods and the mortal races. It's been hinted that the Goblins were either the only ones to fully stand against the gods, or were horrifically attacked in a way that even the Gnomes still weep for.

Why is there a distinct lack of facial hair in the TWI? Is it a snub to Tami, the bearded god, that characters don't even realize what they're doing? Can Gnolls, Drakes, and the lizard ppl of Balros grow facial hair?

Fitty Sebum

I forgot about Mrsha and the beavers and I don't even know if I registered that Rags was natural allies with ogres.

Fitty Sebum

What makes you think the faeries "were" friends with the goblins? Um. Thanks for responding to my earlier.

Fitty Sebum

Henry - why do you think goblins predate vampires? Did you all read this thing multiple times??

Keegan Moss

The dwarves have it, presumably the gnolls do, considering what they are, and no reason the humans can’t, if I had to guess, it largely has to do with the fact that we are largely interacting with girls, teenagers, and drakes. Drakes basically being a lizard, wouldn’t have hair. The rest being a wash on whether or not they could have it. Probably just ends up either being something you don’t notice when you read about a character having it, or it just being a character trait that’s sort of in the background so it’s not important to discuss.

Typhenous has a beard and Erin used to call Wesle fuzzy lips because of his mustache

Alan McBrayer

Well the gnolls are covered in fur which means they have facial fair by default so it's probably just not worth mentioning. The drakes have spines instead of hair and they do have neck spines. I would assume the lizard folk are the same.

Steve

there is a drake with a beard working for the bandit queen

General Corteau

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that goblins are elves but cursed by the gods since they fought against them...

i also think the same
