This is for you Acid+ Patrons to hear of first. I'll do a general announcement 2 chapters from now, as I take my break. On...February 23rd, ending on the 6th.

You'll see why in a moment. Here's what everyone will see:

I am hiring paid editors in the following contest. If you're an editor with about a week to spare, with professional experience, you can edit a single chapter of The Wandering Inn. Which is 20,000 or 30,000 words.

Summary: I'm pirateaba and I write a web serial releasing chapters twice a week. I write live on Twitch, and then release the chapter on Patreon with minimal revision because of how fast the web serial schedule is. I'd like to see if I can work with an editor and have someone come in, swing the editorial wrench or whatever you use, and make it better than I can do alone. After five days of full manuscript editing of the chapter and editorial letter, I'll rewrite it with your notes.

Offer: I’m asking for fast work—5 days—and an unfamiliar chapter you won’t have context for since the entire story is 7+ million words at this point. So the chosen editors will be paid $5,000 USD for the project, or 0.25 per word (whichever is greater; $5,000 is 20,000 words, but I am almost certain to pass that).

How to Apply: Submit by July 1 2021, to wanderinginnmail@gmail.comwith a copy of:

1. Bio/cv of books you have worked on, and any interesting qualifications you have;

2. A sample editorial letter/manuscript edits; and

3. A short statement on your editing philosophy.

Winner Selection:I will get back to you by August 1, 2021. If I find editors that are a good fit we will arrange a date to work together, with the first date planned for September 2021.

1st Chapter – March 6, 2021

For the March 6th chapter Rebecca Brewer (formerly of Ace/Roc and Penguin, editor of Guy Gavriel Kay, S. M. Sterling and many others) is going to provide a full edit of the chapter within the week of its release. I will be posting copies of her editorial letter and changes for those who are interested in what a professional quality editor looks like.

2nd Edited Chapter – June

In June for a chapter, Diana Gill (formerly of Tor, Ace, Harper Voyager editor of Charlaine Harris, Mark Lawrence and many others) is going to provide a full edit of the chapter within the week of its release. I will be posting copies of her editorial letter and changes for those who are interested in what a professional quality editor looks like.

…That’s the announcement. This is a new step for me, since I’ve never used editors before…and I could have used them. However, The Wandering Inn is not friendly towards word-rate fees, and I’ve decided to put on this contest because I think it will really help me improve certain chapters and see flaws in my writing.

My hope is to establish a relationship with an editor, or at the very least, improve from these work events. But we’ll see. Hopefully, there’s interest.

I’ll be putting up a page and tweet this out and throw it around on the social medias. Also so you know, in honor of my birthday week AND this editing thing, I’m probably taking a second break on the 13th.

That’s a mid-month break, but I’ll be revising said chapter and thus might need it sooner. That’s up in the air depending on how I feel, but it’s also advance notice.

Let me know what you think about the plan! Rebecca is already scheduled, so this is coming up fast! Look out for March 6th! It might be like toilet paper. Game-changing.

Thanks for making stuff like this possible,

Sounds pretty awesome! Wish I had gotten into editing instead of technical writing, but I'll definitely look forward to the results!

Interesting. I wonder how much of a difference it will make whether or not an editor is familiar with story. Hopefully there are pro editors among your existing readers, so you also will be able to compare that.

If I had the time I'd join this for the experience of it! Got no editing credentials. I appreciate the broad variety of writing techniques used in the story. Perhaps I could refer someone I know? Maybe add a note that we can share that announcement (or have a page on your site that we can share)

I wouldn’t dare touch your work with an editor (a lot of my love for this story lies in watching your growth as a writer since V1—- but I’m also excited to see if an editor would be able to *noticeably help polish your works*

I love the way each chapter is written, sure there might be a few typos here and there ( though much less than what I make myself in a standard text ) but the style and the wording is beautiful. There are very few books/web serials that grip me any where near as hard as the wandering Inn does. And each new volume is better than the last. I know nothing about what a professional editor does, but as long as it helps you and doesn't alter your style of writing too much or shorten your chapters then I'm all for you getting an editor. Just remember, what you have here already is special be sure to not let the editor take it away 🙈. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I think all of us are here for Erin and the Innworld as welö as your style of telling us about it, Aba. Hope this editor-business works well. This is the best piece of fiction i have ever read. Personally, I would vote against involving edits, but I trust your judgement. Good luck.
