Hey team!

Sorry this is late, been a crazy week. But I just recorded this week’s Book Cheat.

If you want to know what it is before I put it out tomorrow, I read...

Franz Kafka’s ‘Metamorphosis’

If you want to read ahead it’s a very short read and should be available online. Anyone read it before?

The episode features some great first time guests, so I hope you’ll enjoy it. It was a fun one to record.

What are you reading at the moment?

Yesterday I browsed through Berkeley, California's Pegasus Books for the first time. They have the best science fiction section I've ever seen. And I walked away with a book I'd NEVER HEARD OF from one of my all-time favorite authors, Roger Zelazny. How is this even possible? I don't know; sunspots. So I'm reading Bridge of Ashes by Roger Zelazny.

Yay, a German(-language) book! I studied this both in school and at uni (since I’m German and study English and German Literature). I think my favourite is actually The Trial (Der Process), because it so perfectly captures a certain feeling of helplessness under oppressive regimes (or just everyday bureaucracy). Metamorphosis also perfectly captures a certain feeling of helplessness, but in a very different (and honestly fucking weird) way. I’m currently reading way too many books that I’m not finishing before I start a new one, but one of them is The Count of Monte Cristo, which is my favourite book and also a suggestion for Book Cheat - though what makes it so great is also what probably makes it unsuited for the podcast (and the reason why there has never been a good screen adaptation): it has like 1500 pages and numerous interconnected subplots.
