The CHR world is characterised by a mixture of high technology and the remnants of a bygone era that is completely obsolete. It is therefore not uncommon to find in the poorest neighbourhoods black and white or low-quality cameras, low-definition screens or screens that cannot be interacted with without peripherals. On the other hand, in the richest areas there are highly realistic holographic parks, digital butlers or medicine applied with nanobots. The gap between rich and poor is accentuated when it comes to tools for knowledge, health or applied to the development of different work activities.

Your origins make a defining difference to the way you relate to the world and the opportunities you have to grow. Even if many of the great beneficiaries of the divide are loath to admit it.

Pre dark era

Technological advances before the great wars were far superior to what we see today. The AIs had developed their own advances without human supervision, to such an extent that many of the industrial machines of this era are incomprehensible to humans without highly technical training, and therefore could no longer be feasibly maintained. Others, on the other hand, were discarded because many of the factories that supplied specific materials disappeared due to low demand.

The solution to many of the equipment's performance and cost improvements was 'hyperspecialisation'. That is, creating parts that only served a single function. Although during the time this system was in place it democratised access to leading edge tools at low prices, the cost to the planet was irreversible.

Post dark era

Many of the components that in times past would have been considered obsolete have managed to prove to have a high environmental persistence as well as a very long service life. The only solution for poorer neighbourhoods to stay in the race for survival is recycling and repair. And even in this, there is a great deal of business to be done.

The biggest problem is that accidents have escalated. Constant repairs or the use of outdated products has caused many workers to lose limbs, develop chronic respiratory problems or simply die in the course of their work.

On the other hand, access to superfluous comforts remains a synonym of status. But also unnecessary ostentation. The cosmetics industry has improved by leaps and bounds, allowing people with the necessary capital to prolong their youth for decades. But the biggest business is in security. The longer the social divide exists, the more effort will be put on both sides to obtain the resources.

Por eso, no es raro que en los barrios más pobres se encuentren cámaras en blanco y negro o de baja calidad, pantallas con poca definición o con las que no se puede interactuar sin perifericos. En cambio, en las zonas más ricas hay parques holográficos de gran realismo, mayordomos digitales o medicina aplicada con nanobots. La brecha entre ricos y pobres se acentúa cuando se trata de herramientas de conocimiento, salud o aplicadas al desarrollo de diferentes actividades laborales.

Los orígenes marcan de forma definitoria tu forma de relacionarte con el mundo y las oportunidades que tienes para crecer. Aún si muchos de los grandes beneficiados de la brecha no suelan admitirlo.

Pre era oscura

Los avances tecnológicos de antes de las grandes guerras eran muy superiores a los que actualmente se pueden ver. Las IAs habían desarrollado sus propios avances sin supervisión humana, hasta tal punto que muchas de las maquinarias industriales de esta época son incomprensibles para los humanos que no tienen preparaciones muy técnicas y, por tanto, no era viable seguir manteniéndolas. Otras, en cambio, se descartaron porque muchas de las fábricas que suministraban materiales específicos desaparecieron por la baja demanda.

La solución de las lAs para que muchas de las equipaciones mejoraran el rendimiento y los costos era la ‘hiperespecialización’. Es decir, crear piezas que solo servían para una sola función. Aunque durante el tiempo que esto estuvo en marcha este sistema consiguió democratizar el acceso a herramientas punteras a precios bajos, el costo que supuso para el planeta fue irreversible.

Post era oscura

Muchos de los componentes que en épocas pasadas se habrían considerado obsoletos, han conseguido demostrar tener una persistencia medioambiental alta, así como una vida útil muy larga. La única solución para los barrios más pobres para seguir en la carrera por subsistir es el reciclaje y la reparación. Incluso en esto, se puede hacer un gran negocio.

El mayor problema es que los accidentes se han disparado. Las constantes reparaciones o el uso de productos caducados ha provocado que muchos trabajadores pierdan miembros, generen problemas respiratorios crónicos o, simplemente, mueran durante el ejercicio de su profesión.

Por la contra, el acceso a comodidades superfluas sigue siendo un sinónimo de estatus. Aunque también de ostentación innecesaria. La industria de la cosmética ha mejorado a pasos agigantados, permitiendo que las personas con el capital necesario puedan prolongar su juventud durante décadas. Aunque el mayor negocio está en la seguridad. Mientras la brecha social exista, más esfuerzo se pondrá por ambas partes por obtener los recursos.
