Lore: The Prophets (Patreon)

For many, including the supernaturals themselves, the prophets are a myth from another time. Ordinary people who had been selected to guide other humans to fulfil the designs of entities far above them. Although some cases have been recorded in antiquity, even the most learned have come to believe that prophets are merely creations of the human imagination. Either because other supernaturals used their powers to convince them of it, or, because they were charlatans.

The reality is quite different, the archangels long ago abandoned humanity and didn't try to influence their lives. Thus losing the figure of the prophet-guide... A chosen one among humans with extraordinary gifts.

Characteristics

The abilities of these humans can generally be defined as mundane. They don't have superhuman strength, a long life expectancy, prodigious intelligence, or any attributes that make them stand out as individuals. How they are selected is unknown, but the origin of prophets is somewhat of a mystery. Are they chosen because they are born leaders capable of influencing their communities? Are they key players in larger schemes?

The main characteristic of prophets is therefore that they have one or more gifts that help them to fulfil the task assigned to them. Among the most famous gifts we can find the following:

• Voices from other planes: The one gift they all seem to possess as a common denominator is the ability to hear voices from other planes that can inspire or guide them in their task. As Abraham might be when he was put to the test.
• Clairvoyance: The attribute that has become most prominent, to the extent that it has become synonymous with clairvoyance. Sometimes his predictions are cryptic and difficult to interpret, partly because the visions are incomplete or difficult for the human mind to process. An example of this is the Apocalypse written by the apostle John or Noah who prophesied a biblical flood.
• Communication: Many prophets have also displayed the quality of being able to communicate with entities beyond the earthly plane or with people at great distances. Moses had many gifts, including the ability to communicate through a burning bush.
• Astral travel: Out-of-body experiences have also been widely recorded. Some as interventions by a supernatural being and others as a journey that the prophet himself could use as he pleased. The apostle Paul is one of the most renowned in this field.
• Miracles: Here we could include a large number of minor gifts that are attributed to one or two prophets, such as splitting a sea in two to create a passage, speaking unknown languages without having previously studied them, or transmutation of matter.

Para muchos, incluídos los propios sobrenaturales, los profetas son un mito de otro tiempo. Personas comunes que habían sido seleccionadas para guiar a otros humanos y así cumplir los designios de entidades muy por encima de ellos. Aunque se han registrado algunos casos en la antigüedad, incluso los más instruidos, han llegado a pensar que los profetas son solo creaciones  perteneciente al imaginario humano. Ya sea porque otros sobrenaturales utilizaron sus poderes para convencerles de ello, o, porque eran cuentistas.

La realidad es muy diferente, los arcángeles hace tiempo que abandonaron a la humanidad y no trataron de influenciar en sus vidas. Perdiendo así la figura del guía-profeta… Un elegido entre los humanos con dones extraordinarios.

Características

Las capacidades de estos humanos se pueden definir, en general, como mundanas. No tienen fuerza sobrehumana, una larga esperanza de vida, una inteligencia prodigiosa o ningún atributo que les haga destacar como personas. Se desconoce cómo son seleccionados, pero el origen de los profetas es, en cierto modo, un misterio. ¿Se les elige por ser líderes natos capaces de influenciar en sus comunidades? ¿Son piezas claves en esquemas más importantes?

La característica principal de los profetas es pues, la de contar con uno o más dones que le ayuden a cumplir la tarea que se les ha asignado. Entre los dones más famosos nos podemos encontrar los siguientes:

• Voces desde otros planos: El único don que todos parecen poseer como denominador común es la capacidad para escuchar voces venidas desde otros planos que pueden servirles de inspiración u orientación en su tarea. Como podría ser Abraham cuando fue puesto a prueba.
• Clarividencia: La cualidad que más se ha destacado, hasta convertirse en un sinónimo de adivinador. A veces sus predicciones son crípticas y difíciles de interpretar, en parte porque las visiones son incompletas o son difíciles de procesar para la mente humana. Un ejemplo de todo esto es el Apocalipsis escrito por el apóstol Juan o Noé que profetizó una inundación bíblica.
• Comunicación: Muchos profetas también han presentado la cualidad de poder comunicarse con entidades más allá del plano terrenal o con personas que están a largas distancias. Moisés contaba con muchos dones, entre ellos, el de poder comunicarse a través de una zarza en llamas.
• Viajes astrales: Las experiencias extracorpóreas también han sido ampliamente registradas. Algunas como intervenciones de un ser sobrenatural y otras como un viaje que el propio profeta podía usar a su antojo. El apóstol Pablo es uno de los más reconocidos en este campo.
• Milagros: Aquí podríamos englobar una gran cantidad de dones menores que son atribuidos a uno o dos profetas tales como dividir un mar en dos para crear un paso, hablar lenguas desconocidas sin haberlas estudiado previamente o transmutación de la materia.
