Lore: Blood Brothers (Patreon)

An organisation of humans belonging to the Church of Raziel. Although they obey the orders and interests of the demons, they operate quite freely and have their own methods of operation. Their function is twofold, to control the bloodlines of the priests and to keep in check those demons who break the rules and expose the Church.

Originally, it was the demons themselves who performed these tasks, but the guardians proved to be a much more efficient form of control. Demons feared perpetual confinement more than death itself, which dissuaded many from skipping secrecy. In addition, those humans gained obvious physical and mental improvements.

Over time, the methods of selection and forms of synchronisation improved so much that the advantages outweighed the disadvantages, and the brotherhood began to gain power until it took over a large portion of the ecclesiastical tasks. Nevertheless, it's an organisation dependent on the ruling power. If the leader of the Church is strong, the power of the brothers is likely to be equally strong... Whereas, in times past, when power was fractioned and more anarchic, its strength was diluted until it became marginal.

It has many centuries of longevity, so its rules, customs and traditions are deeply rooted. Both for the demons, who respect and coexist with the brotherhood, and for the brothers themselves, who are brought up under strict rules and iron discipline from their earliest childhood.

To join the brotherhood with full rights, it's necessary to prove to be a good recipient of the demon assigned to them. Until that time, brothers are mere postulants and are referred to as 'novices'. Many novices perish in possession due to degradation or lack of compatibility with demonic blood. All demons are carefully selected for each brother, trying to compensate for possible deficiencies in the supernatural's character, all in order to create manageable, loyal and useful personalities. Therefore, novices aren't selected on the basis of their potential and abilities, but by a mixture of more complex factors, such as the needs of the brotherhood, the availability of demons... etc. Often a very promising novice has to wait years for his ordeal, while many others who don't stand out so much can reach their goal more quickly.

Any human being can be possessed, the difference is that the guardians force the possession to be permanent... With time, and extreme methods, they force the supernatural and the human being to synchronise and become one being... For this to happen, several factors have to be fulfilled. First, the recipient must be a priest, otherwise the body of the human being will eventually degrade over time. And secondly, it must be compatible with the blood of the demon, otherwise it can die a quick and very painful death...

Guardians are stronger, more resilient, have greater longevity than a normal human and rarely fall ill.  They often have some control over the special powers of the original demon and can rival the physical characteristics of a supernatural. However, they don't have blood powers, magical abilities, nor are they able to transform or fly.

For the angels, guardians are heresy. The blending of two bodies into one for partial enhancement is playing with forces that only the creator wields. It's unknown whether there is or has ever been any synchronisation between an angel and a human. But, it sounds feasible, given, that angels can also and sometimes do possess the body of humans.

Es una organización de humanos perteneciente a la Iglesia de Raziel. Aunque obedecen las órdenes e intereses de los demonios, operan con bastante libertad y tienen sus propios métodos de actuación. Su función es doble, por un lado, controlar las líneas de sangre de los sacerdotes y, por otro, mantener bajo control aquellos demonios que se saltan las normas y exponen a la Iglesia.

Originalmente, eran los propios demonios los que hacían estas tareas, pero los guardianes demostraron ser una forma mucho más eficiente de control. Los demonios temían más el encierro perpetuo que la propia muerte, lo que disuadió a muchos a dejar de saltarse el secreto. Además, de que aquellos humanos obtenían obvias mejoras físicas y mentales.

Con el tiempo, los métodos de selección y las formas de sincronización mejoraron tanto que las ventajas fueron mayores que los inconvenientes y la hermandad empezó a ganar poder hasta hacerse con una gran porción de las tareas eclesiásticas. No obstante, es una organización dependiente al poder imperante. Si el líder de la Iglesia es fuerte, probablemente, el poder de los hermanos sea igual de fuerte… Mientras, que en épocas pasadas, cuando el poder estaba fraccionado y era más anárquico, su fuerza se diluía hatsa volverse marginal.

Cuenta con muchos siglos de longevidad, por lo que sus normas, costumbres y tradiciones están muy arraigadas. Tanto para los demonios, que respetan y conviven con la hermandad, como para los propios hermanos, que se crían bajo unas estrictas normas y una disciplina férrea desde la más tierna infancia.

Para formar parte de la hermandad con plenos derechos, es necesario demostrar ser un buen recipiente del demonio que se les asigna. Hasta ese momento, los hermanos son meros postulantes y se les denomina ‘novicios’. Muchos novicios perecen en la posesión debido a la degradación o falta de compatibilidad con la sangre demoníaca. Todos los demonios se seleccionan con sumo cuidado para cada hermano, tratando de compensar las posibles deficiencias de carácter del sobrenatural, todo con el fin de crear personalidades manejables, fieles y útiles. Por eso, los novicios no son seleccionados en función de su potencial y habilidades, sino por una mezcla de factores más complejos, como las necesidades de la hermandad, la disponibilidad de demonios... etc. A menudo un novicio muy prometedor debe esperar años para realizar su prueba, mientras que muchos otros que no destacan tanto, pueden alcanzar su meta con mayor rapidez.

Cualquier ser humano puede ser poseído, la diferencia, es que los guardianes fuerzan la posesión para que sea permanente… Con el tiempo, y métodos extremos, obligan al sobrenatural y al ser humano a sincronizarse y convertirse en un solo ser… Para que esto suceda se tienen que cumplir varios factores. El primero, el recipiente debe de ser un sacerdote, de lo contrario el cuerpo del ser humano acabará por degradarse con el tiempo. Y, segundo, debe de ser compatible con la sangre del demonio, de lo contrario puede morir de una forma rápida y muy dolorosa…

Los guardianes son más fuertes, más resistentes, tienen mayor longevidad que un humano normal y raramente enferman.  A menudo, tienen cierto control sobre los poderes especiales del demonio original y pueden rivalizar con las características físicas de un sobrenatural. No obstante, no tienen poderes de sangre, habilidades mágicas, ni son capaces de transformarse o volar.

Para los ángeles, los guardianes suponen una herejía. La mezcla de dos cuerpos en uno para obtener mejoras parciales es jugar con fuerzas que solo el creador maneja. Se desconoce si hay o ha habido alguna sincronización entre un ángel y un humano. Pero, suena factible, dado, que los ángeles también pueden y, en algunas ocasiones, poseen el cuerpo de los humanos.
