Hello everyone it's me Sam as mentioned in the title of this post. In the past I've written lots of Aunty Donna sketches but presently I'm writing this patreon post. Just checking into say hello and letting you know I can answer any questions you might have for me over the following week. I can cover the following topics and more; Aunty Donna, sketch comedy, scripts, film set catering, the novels of Robin Hobb and the writing of this patreon post.

I had planned to do a live stream with the goal of going through some AD scripts  & sketches together but unfortunately my computer is too slow. Though if you're interested in this let me know and I'll make sure it happens in the future. Or if you have any other thoughts/ ideas let me know.

Kind Regards,

Sam Lingham

Hey Sam, love your work. Would you consider yourself to be a country boy? Or a bit of a city slicker after all these years? Kind regards

Anonymous

I heard you're good at solving Rubix cubes. Is this true?

Anonymous

Bit of a serious one, does it ever bother you being “the other” members of Aunty Donna? Do you wish you could’ve also been the face of the group like Mark, Zach, and Broden?

What's your address sammy?

Do you like performing in Aunty Donna or do you just kinda tolerate it and prefer writing?

Have you read Hobb’s Soldier Son trilogy or just the Realm of The Elderlings books? If you’ve read the trilogy, what do you think of it? This is more of an anecdote but after I finished Assassin’s Fate I cried so hard the capillaries in my nose burst and my nose was very purple for weeks. Bye

Re catering: what’s the secret in terms of satisfying everyone and also minimising wastage?

Anonymous

You come across as the most serious one to me, do you think that’s true? If it’s not - who is the most serious out of all you guys? Edit: when I say serious I mean most ‘down to business’ type attitude

Anonymous

Would you ever consider doing a raunchy Xmas calender? And I don't mean the boys I mean specifically just you.

Hi Sam, is your name short for Samuel? if so, why have you shortened it? for the convenience of having to only introduce yourself by saying one syllable? for the convenience of others, by having them only have to say one syllable? or is it to save time when you are writing/typing it out? or possibly it is short for Samantha... in which case; how old were you when you got your first period?

What's your favorite kind of Elf?

I'm always plotting away at something but nothing I can talk about. Mainly because I start lots of things that go nowhere.

auntydonna

Thank you for being a fan but no thank you for your question. It's incredibly inappropriate.

I have many questions regarding set catering and if breakfast is on offer, if so, what options? please and thank you warmest regards

Which of the Aunty Donna boys do you like working with the least? What could they do to win back your favour?

auntydonna

I met Zach at an audition for VCA acting course (neither of us got in). I met Tom through both living together on residence at Ballarat uni. I met Broden when he came to say hello to Tom at residence. I met Mark in my second year of university, I was a mentor helping out first years and Mark was the first person to show up on Monday morning, we also shared a mutual friend called Malcolm. I met Max when he came to visit Tom in Ballarat but I don't think we would've spoken until I went to a concert by Tom and Max's rock'n'roll band Napoleon in rags.

auntydonna

I have done many small parts in many sketches so I'll probably not remember them all. I like cocaine and cake as the chaotic silliness makes me laugh a lot.

auntydonna

I have a mac book air from 2016. It's great for writing text and carrying around to gigs but that's about it.

auntydonna

No not really. I think if I placed more value on the public perception of what I do it would bother me more. However, I consider the best bit of my job to be when I'm in the writers room and I find something funny for the first time. In those moments I don't really give a fuck about anything else. I'll also note I did train as an actor and while it was great it's certainly not the best fit for me. There are also pros and cons to being a public figure, a lot of those cons would bother me quite a bit.

auntydonna

It's fun to step in occasionally, I did train s an actor so it's not completely alien to em. Usually I step in when we're running super lofi and we don't want to have the bother of getting someone else in. If I'm doing something that's actually important for the sketch I can get a bit nervous as it's not a muscle that I exercise very often.

auntydonna

I've read all of Robin Hobb's novels because she is the best at novels. Spoiler alert everyone, I'll be vague but still spoiler alert.. One of my favourite things about her is how she uses magic to make her characters more powerful but the flip side of that means she can really put them through the ringer. Like really make them suffer. The protagonists journey in the Soldier Son Trilogy is a perfect example of that. It's also why I think the end of the Realm of the Elderlings is so moving. It feels like finally, Fitz has earnt the ending. When other authors do endings like that it tends to annoy me a bit.

auntydonna

To be satisfying you should provide yum food and not yuck food. Also a balance of different yum foods is important for satisfaction. Minimising wastage is all about estimating and I think that only really comes with practice.

auntydonna

I'm both very serious about being silly but also very serious about being serious. I think all of us, like all people, are serious about different things at different times. That's a very vanillas answer but it's true. fart.

auntydonna

Samuel and it was shortened to Sam by my parents. I have chosen to uphold this shortening and I honestly couldn't tell you why.

Why are you the way you are ?

auntydonna

It's a small shoot so we'll have some toast (a nice sourdough & a gluten free loaf), a selection of pastries and two types of cereal )both cow and soy milk). We'll also have a percolator, tea bags and some juice. Please bring your own water bottle and keep cup.

auntydonna

I'm a little too city for the country and a little too country for the city. Melbourne's real cool but it took a me few years to adjust. I like writing and comedy so I live where I can do that easiest.

Damon Reed

Hey Sam, what's your favourite?

auntydonna

Hey I'm gonna bail for today. I'll check back in later this week xoxox

Hi adam, it’s time for another podcast with you, Tom, and Max. Thank you!!

I’m still fuzzy on the origin behind the name Aunty Donna. Do the boys have any regrets behind this name? Seems a little fucked...how does the name relate to the comedy and the brand?

Is Sam News still going strong or has Zach taken over again and called it Sam News with Zach?

Are your motivations to write and have a career as a writer hedonistic and based in the pleasure of the process or is it with a specific meaning or objective in mind?

How much of a hassle is it to get permission to film on some of the locations you all have? Organising to use a whole school must have been a bit tricky

Anonymous

One day there was no more lust for silver, which makes me sad. Explain

Anonymous

How excited are you for the new dune movie?

auntydonna

We all love the name. In the early days it made sense to us but not logically, just more of a gut thing. Also sometimes if a name makes too much sense it can restrict what you do. We wanted something that would grow with us over time and Aunty Donna has certainly done that.

auntydonna

I'd say primarily hedonistic. Though there are certain things I'd like to write about/ communicate to larger audience.

auntydonna

If we have a producer on board for a project its their job to find a location and more often than not there are places available. If it's lofi we just call in favours for locations. Doing an afternoon shooting 'Best Day of My Life' was doable because we involved the media class and ex-students. But then that school wasn't able to have us for Glennridge because they has heaps of construction over the summer. We ended up shooting at Max, Tom and Bro's old school and I think it's their personal connections that got us in. Though I severely doubt that would happen again. It's getting nigh on impossible to film in schools.

auntydonna

Over the moon excited. I loved arrival and blade runner so much and Dune is easily one of my top 5 books ever. If it's good I'll be so so happy.

auntydonna

The 1 dimensional nature of the character (which is the best bit of the character) meant he had quite a limited shelf life. It just became harder and harder to find things that I thought were funny.

I am TOTALLY ready for a stream where you walk through Donna scripts. That is big. However, if you could make it as an unlisted YouTube video or something so that if I miss it I could watch it pls and thanks
