I think I'd be really interested to hear Zack's opinions on some of Guy Richie's earlier films such as Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch compared to some of his later works like Aladdin and King Arthur (take a guess at which ones I prefer :p)

Geordie McGrath

Good Time. I honestly didn't know if I liked it til it finished, but ultimately I think I really liked it. I love a street cast movie

Green Room, Mal educación, and tickled are all fantastic. But each ranging from kind of disturbing to super disturbing

I would not recommend I am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. But Osgood Perkins' previous film, the Blackcoat's Daughter is wonderful.

Into the spiderverse. Loved it more than I should have, connected too some personal feels bruh. The Fanatic from John Travolta was so bad, I don't recommend but I Lowkey do! Cos it's so bad it's good 😂

Kylie Jones

I would recommend What We Do In the Shadows. I would not recommend Bohemian Rhapsody. I know it was popular but I think it's terrible.

Really depends on what you want to watch. Movies are so diverse that it’s best to just cater to someone’s taste But jf y’all liked Moneyball you’ll probably like other Sorkin-written stuff: Molly’s Game, Steve Jobs (Fassbender not Kutcher), The Social Network. If you just like good writing, don’t know how y’all feel about Kaufman but if ya fux with trippy eternal love stories, try Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. If ya watched and liked that, move on to his other stuff like Anomalisa, Synecdoche New York or Being John Malkovich. These are the ones I’d imagine Zach has already seen, like, 10 times each. Maybe.

Recommendation: Mandy - honestly this movie is the biggest mind trip ever AND you get Nic Cage as a bonus. Wouldn’t recommend: Alien 3. Absolute shit stain on the franchise. CGI is laughably bad and they kill off a bunch of characters off screen.

Anonymous

Under the Silver Lake for both

bennymakesgames

Oh, and if you’re up to it do a Bong Joon Ho-a-thon then you could go through all of his films from start to fin

Recommend green book, wouldn't recommend the Platform

If you want something older my favorite movie of all time Maximum Overdrive. Killer trucks possessed by outer space gas. Otherwise the Creepshow films are great old horror!

David Falconer

Would recommend "Arrival" Wouldn't recommend "Star Wars 9: Revenge of the dead dude who then dies again"

Anonymous

I would say don't watch Dangerous Lies on Netflix but it's the most predictable, generic and cliched thriller I've ever seen, that I recommend it hahahaha also, Ross' dad from friends is in it lol

Recommend Resolution, immediately followed by The Endless. Resolution is an interesting take on the horror genre that discusses the meta in a different way than Cabin in the Woods. The Endless expands on the in-universe lore without explicitly calling itself a sequel. Would also recommend the documentaries The Act of Killing followed by The Look of Silence. Covering the Indonesian mass killings in the 60s, the Act of Killing follows the perpetrators in the current day, now revered as heroes and are asked to reenact their actions. The Look of Silence follows the surviving brother of one of the victims of the mass killings as he attempts to confront the murderers. Wouldn't recommend Shirkers. The editing and visuals were fantastically done, but I found the subject matter boring and a "non-story", despite the fact that it's a documentary about filmmaking, which I typically find interesting (like Side by Side). Also the documentarian was an arrogant, annoying character who brought nothing to the table except unnecessary drama.

Would recommend "The last airbender" (2010)

Anonymous

Would highly recommend The Lighthouse with Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattison. From listening to your movie podcasts I think you all would really like that movie. Only came out in Feb, so I’m not sure if it’s on any streaming services yet, but ya could always rent it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anonymous

Wouldn’t recommend the American version of Let The Right One In but would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Swedish version! Honestly one of my fav horror/thriller films, if you’re the type to be okay with subtitles

Anonymous

I enjoyed The Ritual on Netflix. Possibly biased because I think Rafe Spall is fine as hell

Anonymous

I wouldn't recommend Dead Silence starring Ryan Kwanten. It's a rare flop from James Wan.

Anonymous

I would recommend The Expanse. Superior world building to any other sci series. I would also recommend Jordi Roca episode of Chef's Table

Anonymous

Recommended: futureworld not recommended: the host

Recommended: Fitzcarraldo - typical Werner Herzog craziness, the documentary about the making of the movie is almost as good as the actual thing. He basically fly the cast out into the middle of the Amazon rainforest and put them into increasingly life-threatening situations until half of them quit. At one point the lead actor (Klaus Kinski) got into a vicious argument and started waving a gun around at Werner Herzog. They also tried to replicate the actions of the movie's hero/antihero by quite literally dragging a tugboat over a mountain. Not Recommended: Podcast 194 - Quantitative vs Qualitative Data (just a cheeky joke)

Just recently went through all of BBC's Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II. Everybody who hasn't seen those should absolutely get on it! Incredible documentaries.

Anonymous

Fifth element, Parasite

Anonymous

I’d recommend Bong Joon-ho’s the Host. Not as good as parasite but still good. I would not recommend Disney’s Peter Pan, it’s full of racism, sexism and boredom.

Anonymous

Highly wouldn’t recommend the Godfather or Blade Runner, both very boring and overrated. Sorry everyone

Anonymous

I can reccomend Chicken Run, and also cant reccomend Chicken Run. You should watch Chicken Run.

Anonymous

Recommend Funny Games / Don‘t recommend Funny Games US (Shot-for-shot Remake with higher Budget und worse actors)

Anonymous

Pickpocket, Breathless, La Haine, Man Bites Dog. These are the Frenchest films that y'all ought to watch.

Anonymous

Withnail & I is a great combination of funny and wistfully sad. But you guys probably know that movie already. Deerhunter is intense and fucked but so good. Also you guys should watch The Wire if you haven't already (prestige-level American crime drama, you've probably heard of it...positively Shakespearean).

Anonymous

In Bruges and Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star. One is good and one isn't, but I refuse to say which is which

Anonymous

Recommend - Train to Busan. Don't Recommend - The Dead Don't Die.

Anonymous

Fact Check: Man Bites Dog is Belgian. Got to give the little guys credit when it's due.

Return of the Living Dead (Perfectly 80s horror), Monster Squad (Goonies + monsters), Lost Boys (80s teen vampires), Cabin in the Woods (Fun twist on horror genre), and Tucker & Dale VS Evil (Twist on killer hillbillies). There's other more cinematic, high-brow horror, but these really hit the sweet spot of fun camp and horror.
