Quick heads-up: This short is based on the degenerate RWBY AU that I’ve written a few commissions for over on DA. As such, all the gals are older and their figures are a bit more… filled-out.

It was a typical Sunday at Beacon. Weiss was studying in the library, Yang was ‘studying’ with Weiss, and Blake had finished studying in the shade of the tree outside their dorm room and was now reading. Cardeman finally released the long-awaited sequel to ‘Violet Ninjas of the Fuschia Night’ last week, but Blake had been so busy that she hadn’t even had the chance to crack it open yet.

There was one thing that was still preventing Blake from giving her anticipated book all the attention it deserved though - Ruby. Just as Yang and Weiss were often glued at the hips even before they’d officially gotten together, Ruby often followed Blake around like a lost puppy (as much as Blake hated that idiom, it was the perfect fit). Yet she wasn’t here.

Ruby needed supplies for a class, so she’d left that morning for town. Without Blake. She normally asked Blake to go along, but she hadn’t this time. Why? Was she hiding something? Was she planning revenge for something? What was the reason? It was putting Blake so on edge that she could hardly concentrate on her book! She just kept glancing around, waiting for-

There she was. The scarlet-clad huntress herself, happily bouncing towards Blake with a bag in each hand. And yes, Blake did indeed mean bouncing. Blake was scared of what Ruby had in store for her, but she still loved watching her approach.

“Blake!” Ruby said excitedly as she came to a stop next to where Blake was sitting (though certain parts of her took longer to stop than others). She grinned as she plopped down next to the black-haired huntress, legs crossed. She leaned over and pecked Blake on the cheek. “I’m back! Did you miss me?”

Blake closed her book and side-eyed Ruby. “You were gone for just a few hours, Ruby.”

“Aww, but I missed you!” Ruby pouted.

Blake rolled her eyes, but she couldn’t stop the corners of her mouth from twitching upward. She was so cute. Plus, if Ruby was acting like this, then she probably wasn’t mad or hiding anything. She was a terrible liar, after all. “So? Did you get everything you needed?”

Ruby perked up at the question. “Yup! And I also got…” Ruby reached into one of her bags, then yanked something out. “-this!”

Blake stared at the book Ruby had just whipped out. She blinked. “Uh…”

“It’s the sequel to that one ninja book you keep hiding from me!” Ruby squealed. “You haven’t been to town lately to get it, so I got it for you!”

The cat-eared faunus bit her lip. Well… this was certainly going to be awkward…

“Uh… Ruby?”

“Yeah, Blakey?”

Blake raised the book she was holding to show Ruby the cover, which was identical to the one she was holding. “I, uh… bought it on release day.”

Ruby just stared at the book in Blake’s hands. After a few seconds, her eyes shifted to Blake. “...What? But- But how? When?”

“Yeah… uh…” Blake set her book down and rubbed the back of her neck, her ears slowly drooping. “I… may have slipped out of the dorm last week after curfew to go to the midnight release… heheh…”

“So… So that WAS a clone I woke up hugging that night!” Ruby exclaimed, “I thought you seemed cold, but I chalked it up to it being winter.”

Blake sighed. “Sorry. I was so excited for this book but I know you don’t handle late nights well and that you’d insist on going if I told you, so…”

The busty huntress slid the extra book back into her bag. She sighed, then gave Blake a small smile “You don’t need to say sorry. I probably would’ve tagged along and fallen asleep in the store, heh. But hey- was it fun?”

Blake’s embarrassment broke into a grin as she replied, “Yeah, it was fantastic. I was one of the first people, so I got a signed copy while they still had them.”

“Really?” Ruby said, scooting closer to Blake. “I wanna see! Show me!”

While Blake flipped open the cover to show Ruby the signature, a wave of anxiety started to prick at the back of her neck. She swallowed. “Hey… Ruby?”

The silver-eyed huntress glanced up at Blake. “Yeah?”

Blake avoided Ruby’s earnest gaze as she asked, “So… why didn’t you ask me to go into town with you today? Was it to buy this for me?”

“No, it’s because you don’t like going into town,” Ruby said simply. “I didn’t even know this was out until I happened to see someone else reading it while walking through town. Also, we’ve been so busy lately that I figured you’d want to spend today reading.” Ruby tilted her head to the side. “Sorry, was I wrong?”

Blake stared in stunned silence for a moment, then chuckled to herself. Since when had her cute GF gotten so good at reading her? “No, you’re right. I thought… never mind.” She smooched Ruby on the forehead. “Thanks for the book, Ruby. Want me to go into town with you later to return it?”

“Nope!” Ruby declared, holding the bag with the book close to herself. “Since you won't let me read your copy of the first one, I’m just gonna read this one!”

The black-haired huntress nodded solemnly while affectionately rubbing the top of Ruby’s head. Right. That night, while Ruby was sleeping, that book was getting burned. The last thing Blake needed was for her girlfriend to start reading the same erotic novels as her. Or, even worse, for Ruby to enjoy the same erotic novels as her. One Blake was more than enough for their relationship.

Since team RWBY took second place in the last poll, I made a short little fic of Ruby and Blake from said team.

I could've done the whole team and was totally going to too, but my short idea turned into a whole thing that I'm instead going to use for an actual fic later. With that idea being saved, this was the next thing that came to mind.

The saved idea is a really fun idea, though. It won't be the next fic, but it'll probs be sometime this month. Get hype for that~

Woohoo! This is such a cute little look at what is usually such a degenerate AU. Thank you for giving us a peak into what life is like for these nerds!

I adore this degenerate RWBY AU of yours so much! Ruby and Blake are just such a fantastic couple. And I'm already hyped for this idea you have in development for later, especially since it hopefully means we'll see some more bonding moments between Weiss and Yang!

I'm so happy you like my Degenerate AU! Jaundis has been doing such a wonderful job bringing it to life, and I was so happy to hear that she was making another story for it unprompted. Gah, seeing other people talk about and work on an AU that has mostly been in my head for a while is so satisfying!
