Under Matthew's command, the zombies stood frozen in place.

However, the undead aura naturally sent shivers down the spines of the living.

Peggy, who was initially led by Matthew, didn't feel much until he let go of the reins. The mother goat couldn't bear the pressure from the horde of zombies and started running aimlessly through the crowd.

She zigzagged her way through the zombie group.

Matthew followed her cautiously.

Suddenly, the mother goat let out a pitiful cry as her head collided with the knee of a zombie transformed from a Dragonblood Warrior.

Thud!

Her neck tilted, and she fainted.

However, as she fell, her body involuntarily shifted to the side, moving slightly away.

Matthew followed her.

In the end, he was surprised to find the mother goat fainted in front of another zombie!

And she was the only one in the entire zombie horde who wasn't protected by the Sacred Moon Armor!

Miss Zombie.

"Is this just a coincidence?" Matthew approached the goat and checked her breathing, reassuring himself that she had only fainted from fear. Otherwise, he'd have to improve his study of the Malevolent Transformation Art by eating goat meat and drinking goat soup tonight.

He had the goat dragged outside and tied securely.

Then he carefully examined Miss Zombie.

She stared blankly at him.

Matthew furrowed his brows slightly.

Purely considering her attributes, Miss Zombie had no reason to be a target for enhancement. Her level was only LV7, far lower than the zombies transformed from Dragonblood Warriors. Her six attributes were average, and she hadn't even received the Silver Moon Buff.

Apart from her combat capabilities, she hadn't shown any additional potential. Even during the previous Night of the Dead, she hadn't said a word. The system's label for her was "dull-witted zombie," and it seemed like she had little promise.

After pondering for a while, the only positive aspect Matthew could think of was, "It seems like she has pretty good luck."

Meeting Matthew, who was preparing for the Night of the Dead, was fortunate for the undead. Just as death mages could advance through the ritual, the undead could significantly reinforce their Soul Fires through it. Then, she miraculously avoided the "Dead Man's Ball," not becoming a part of the spectacular phenomenon, which was rare in the entire Swamp of Sorrows. Even stumbling around goats was a matter of luck.

Of course, Matthew knew that a real luck child couldn't die easily and be turned into a mediocre zombie.

"Let's go with her!" Matthew decided to believe in superstition.

After selecting Miss Zombie as his target, he didn't hold back and immediately strengthened her eleven times in a row. Beams of enhancement radiance flashed in the air.

The results of the enhancements were as follows:

1 Gold, 2 Purple, 2 Blue, 1 White, 3 Gray.

Seeing this distribution of colors, Matthew was both pleased and worried. He was happy about getting Gold, which was a good sign, but he was concerned about the three Gray enhancements; he was afraid his heart couldn't take it.

"I hope the Gray enhancements aren't related to my salary."

To maintain his composure, Matthew prayed and then examined the 1 Gold, 2 Purple, and 3 Gray enhancements mixed together.

First, he focused on the Gold enhancement.

"True Luck (Low-Key Version/Gold): Your summon possesses remarkable luck (hidden). Her luck won't usually be the best among the crowd, but most of the time, she will be the second luckiest when surrounded by people with below-average luck. When she is near someone with extremely high luck, her luck will rise to a level just slightly below theirs. This keyword gives your summon two abilities: 'Loot Box Master' and 'Unexpected Windfall.' Loot Box Master: Your summon has a higher chance of obtaining better loot when opening chests or picking up loot from dead masters. Usable three times per day. Unexpected Windfall: Your summon can receive an unexpected windfall no matter where she goes. After the ability is triggered, it won't activate again for two weeks."

"Melee Ineptitude (Gray): Your summon rejects any form of melee combat. Once she encounters enemies in close combat, she will do everything to escape."

It seemed luck was indeed the theme. Matthew clenched his fist tightly. He knew his perception would never deceive him. Though Miss Zombie's luck seemed a bit awkward, he instantly understood it. "As long as I find someone with incredibly high luck and stick with them, Miss Zombie's luck will become terrifying."

"Even if she's surrounded by unlucky folks, she will maintain a stable good luck."

Thinking about this, Matthew scanned the surroundings and wondered if all of them were unlucky.

As for "Melee Ineptitude," Matthew initially frowned but quickly got used to it.

He continued reading.

"Storm Shooter (Purple): Your summon awakens the 'Storm Shooter' template, gaining +2 Strength and +1 Agility. She acquires the Storm Shooter abilities: 'Basic Archery,' 'Advanced Archery,' 'Master Archery,' 'Gale Shot,' 'Deckhand's Stride,' 'Ship Maintenance,' and 'Mast Mastery.' Your summon awakens under the name 'Renaismae.'"

"Taste of the Sea (Gray): Renaismae craves the taste of the sea, becoming obsessed with the salty aroma of the ocean. While on land, she must wear accessories from the sea to maintain her combat effectiveness. These accessories include, but are not limited to: - Shells emitting a sea aroma, - Wet seaweed bracelets, - Smoked or salted fish with the sea's flavor, - A conch filled with seawater..."

In general, Matthew was satisfied with this round of enhancements. At least he didn't have to worry about everyone in the team being unlucky.

He included Renaismae in his contract slot.

Matthew's sixth contract undead had now been born.

He took a moment to review his undead team:

  • Peggy, who appeared to be a versatile leader but was more of a logistics manager.
  • Lawrence, who seemed tough but couldn't withstand much damage.
  • Zeller, a Blade Dancer who specialized in combat.
  • Lysanna, a money-loving, directionally challenged, and shadowy assassin.
  • Martin, a greedy, experienced, and frail assassin.
  • Old Gito, a zombie archer who was still in development.
  • Yu Lian, a legendary, skillful, and deceptive assassin.
  • Suya, an up-and-coming zombie archer who would struggle in melee combat.
  • Renaismae, a zombie archer with incredible luck.

Looking at the team, Matthew sadly realized that he was the only one capable of consistently withstanding damage.

"Black Knights!" Matthew exclaimed. "I have to make at least two Black Knights!"

However, with his current knowledge and magical abilities, creating Black Knights was still far from his reach.

After leaving the cemetery, Matthew brought a wrapped corpse to the oak forest. He dug up Edson's headless corpse and buried it deep under an oak tree.

Rather than dreaming about creating Black Knights, he decided it was more practical to expect Edson to provide high-quality gifts in the future.

Later that night, guided by the moonlight, Matthew entered the Moonlit Woods to find Aela. In the cold forest, his heart raced, and he couldn't calm down.

The guards from Telorin Village weren't as brave as Matthew and didn't enter the forest. After all, it was close to the Swamp of Sorrows, and there had been reports of ghosts in the area. They were terrified of Aela.

Matthew's anxiety continued to grow. He muttered, "Aela, where are you?"

He arrived at the meeting point and scanned the vicinity. Finally, his pulse quickened.

There, in the distance, stood Aela, a beautiful shadow under the moonlight. She was staring at Matthew in surprise.

Matthew had to sigh. "It seems like things really have changed."

Aela stared at Matthew and softly replied, "It looks like you've really changed."

Their relationship used to be as transparent as glass. It was only recently that they began to lose their understanding of each other.

Seeing her standing there alone, her cold temperament didn't make him feel alone anymore. But her aloofness and indifference hurt his heart.

Matthew's body stiffened, but he hesitated for a moment.

The past few days had changed his outlook on life. He began to understand that he wasn't the person he used to be.

But right now, he was confused.

He gazed into Aela's eyes and asked, "Have you broken up with me?"

Aela, who had always been serious, was taken aback. "Do you think breaking up is the only option?"

Matthew remained silent.

Aela added, "Matthew, do you remember when I confessed my feelings to you in the Moonlit Woods?"

"Yes." Matthew nodded. "I remember everything."

"That was the most romantic moment in my life," Aela said. "I have no regrets. The love I have for you has not changed. But sometimes, love isn't everything."

"I'm not sure I understand," Matthew admitted.

"Even if you're a little dense," Aela said with a light smile, "I'm sure you can still figure it out."

Matthew remained silent.

"Do you think that love can overcome everything?" Aela asked.

"I..."

Aela interrupted him. "Maybe your love for me can."

Matthew felt the emotional storm inside him calming.

Aela softly added, "But what if my love for you doesn't exist in this world? What if I don't love you anymore?"

Matthew's heart wavered.

"Are you going to force me to love you?" Aela questioned.

"What should I do then?" Matthew asked.

Aela's heart ached as she gazed at Matthew. "Your biggest mistake is thinking that love can conquer everything. You're too confident, too self-assured. You think that as long as you do something, I will be happy."

Matthew was silent.

"I don't want you to change for me," Aela said. "I don't want you to become someone I don't recognize. I don't want you to lose yourself because of me."

She continued, "I fell in love with you as you were. If you're always trying to please me, I'll miss the real you."

Aela stared at Matthew, her eyes filled with tenderness. "I'll always be your confidant, Matthew. But even if we can't be together, don't worry. I'll be happy if you're happy. Please remember this."

Aela walked over to Matthew and took his hand. "I'm not breaking up with you, Matthew. I'm giving you the space you need to grow."

Matthew was filled with gratitude.

He reached out and held Aela's hand.

At that moment, he finally understood.

Their love was still there.

But it had transformed.

A new beginning was waiting for them.

...

The Sword Saint.

A variant of the monk's path.

Hundreds of years ago, orcs learned the use of "ki" from the eastern monks, combining it with their physique and insight to create this powerful art.

Compared to the balanced resistance of monks, Sword Saints tend to be more extreme. Many of their abilities and techniques are designed to counteract magic and divine arts. This may be related to the history of orcs being enslaved by gods and high-level mages during the Age of Enlightenment.

In the central and southern regions of the Aendore continent, orcs are rarely seen. Most of them settled on the plains north of Soaring Island. Therefore, the female Sword Saint, Klaeg, was the first orc that Matthew had ever encountered.

From a human aesthetic perspective, female orcs were hard to compliment. Her skin was a dark brown, with unusually large pores on her face. She sported a long braid on her head, which she wound up like a stack of donuts during combat.

Her physique was robust, with near-perfect muscle definition. She wore a somewhat tattered monk's robe, and no one dared to gaze too long at the holes in it.

Klaeg had a very indifferent look, and she had keen perception. The moment Matthew approached, she gave him a stern glare.

Matthew wisely halted his steps. He didn't want any misunderstandings.

With the powerful Sword Saint in the group, the remaining enemies were no match. The battle ended quickly.

Only Klaeg remained unmoved.

She cast a cold glance at Matthew and rummaged through the corpses. Then, she turned to Samantha and said, "Let's stop here for today. Once you've repaired the shrine, come and find me. You know where to look."

With those words, the female orc's figure gradually faded away.

"Klaeg? Wait, I want to introduce a friend to you..." Samantha's words were cut short as the orc disappeared completely.

"Sorry, Matthew. Klaeg is always like this. She's very cautious around strangers. Even I was given the cold shoulder when I first approached her," Samantha explained and then playfully teased Matthew, "Why do you have time to visit the Moonlit Woods?"

Matthew, with his hand on his acolyte's badge, replied reverently, "Praise the Moon! After advancing, my first priority was to return to the Moonlit Woods. Easing the worries of the Goddess is my duty, not just visiting, Miss Samantha."

Samantha looked noticeably more cheerful. She chuckled for a moment before speaking seriously, "If you're willing to help the Moonlit Woods, that's even better. With Klaeg's assistance and your army of undead, we might have a good chance to level the Bug Nest in one go."

Matthew was pleasantly surprised. Samantha's willingness to cooperate was a stark contrast to her earlier attitude. Something significant must have happened during his absence. He didn't ask about the specifics. Instead, he inquired about acquiring oak tree seeds, "Do you know where to purchase oak tree seeds?"

Samantha thought for a moment, "Oak tree seeds are mostly controlled by the Druids' Guild. I don't have a source for them, but you can try talking to Eli. The Earthbond Society should have a good stock of oak tree seeds."

Matthew made a mental note, and then he asked, "Have you seen Eli recently? Do you know where he is?"

Samantha's reaction was a bit surprising. She became visibly excited. "Have you been to the Su Nation lately?"

...

In the north.

In a river west of the Flowing Glacier.

With a mournful cry from the massive beast.

Huge water splashes rose along the riverbank.

Splash, splash!

A vigorous figure climbed up the bank, clutching the tail of the Glacial Abyssal Dragon.

At this moment, he was completely naked, and his well-proportioned body exuded a strong aura of masculinity.

Countless orbs, large and small, emanated from the Glacial Abyssal Dragon's body.

The man with numerous wounds on his body revealed a satisfied smile. He allowed these orbs to enter his body.

He knew he had succeeded.

From being a third-tier shapeshifter, he had officially advanced to a fourth-tier "Master of Transformation"! Eli gained not only the Glacier Abyssal Dragon's wild shape but also significant enhancements.

At the same time, his other rare wild shape, the Primordial Tiger, reached its final form. Eli could now keenly feel his newfound extraordinary strength.

His enhanced abilities allowed him to hear the river's laughter, feel the glacier's blessings, and even sense the Earth's pulse when his hands touched the ground.

A whole new field opened up before him.

Eli was clear that this was his domain.

This was his legendary path!

"My legendary path lies in the south, in the town of Rolling Stone, on Matthew!"

Eli knelt on the ground and muttered to himself.

After a moment, he stood up with determination in his eyes.

At this moment, a young girl who had been watching for a long time came up from the riverbank.

She shyly handed Eli his clothes and held a basket of food and fruit in her other hand.

However, Eli waved off her offer. He understood the girl's intentions. Due to the Glacial Abyssal Dragon's activities, the village she belonged to was in constant danger.

On the first day of Eli's battle with the dragon, villagers had come to thank him, hoping he could rid them of the dragon. Eli had noticed this particular girl among them.

But as the battle with the Glacial Abyssal Dragon stretched on, villagers stopped coming to watch. Only the girl continued to stand there silently, supporting Eli.

This gesture had touched Eli's heart.

He knew that he and the girl had no future together. He was the proud Primordial Tiger, destined to leave a legendary mark on the world's stage.

Moreover, after Samantha and Peggy, who had both suffered heartbreak, Eli had decided to close off his heart and focus solely on his training. Women would only slow him down.

"I... I just wanted..." The girl stammered, trying to catch up to Eli, who was about to leave.

However, Eli turned around, saying, "It's pointless. I will never have feelings for women again in my life."

Hearing this, the girl stood there in shock.

She watched in dismay as Eli's confident figure disappeared from her view.

After a long time, she sighed and carried the basket of food into the woods.

In the shadows, a black panther emerged.

"Mission failed?" the girl said in disappointment.

"And he didn't even give me a chance to speak!" she added.

"He said he wouldn't have feelings for women again!"

"Maybe you should try to seduce him?" the black panther said sarcastically.

The girl retorted, "Then why don't you try seducing him yourself?"

The black panther remained silent for a moment, then replied coldly, "I can confirm that the Primordial Tiger's sexual orientation is normal."

The girl was once again taken aback.

"Because of that, I understand Eli's nature very well. He must have been through something recently to make such a statement about not having feelings for women. This isn't his true self."

The black panther continued, "You might not have chosen the right moment, but as long as you continue to be close to him, you'll have a chance to enter his heart next time."

The girl pouted, "Do I really have to do this?"

The black panther softly stated, "Don't forget, this is Mother's command."

At the mention of "Mother," the girl shivered.

"Go south, find Eli, and hope for the best. Our stench of decay is too strong, and he'll detect it as soon as you get close. You're our last hope."

With that, the black panther stepped back and quickly disappeared into the shadows.

"Don't let Mother down."
