Chapter 301: Ambush

Guarding outside, the black cat brought back a message: a considerable number of troops dispatched by the enemy were conducting a widespread carpet search. Fearing discovery, the black cat watched from a distance before rushing back to the cave.

As expected, the enemy's relentless pursuit was within Luo's anticipation.

Hoping that the enemy would be sensible was clearly just a frivolous joke.

The importance of Sanbica in the prison was as expected.

The reason was somewhat clear to Luo, who was one of the few privy to Sanbica's Nen abilities.

From the enemy's emphasis on Sanbica, one could vaguely guess their intentions—likely to utilize Sanbica's virus for a specific purpose.

In the cave, the light from a smartphone screen was the sole source of illumination.

"It seems we can’t trouble the president with these nuisances anymore," Luo said, sitting on dry hay, munching on poisonous fruits picked by the black cat, while Sanbica ate non-toxic wild fruits, albeit in smaller quantities.

Originally referring to the president as 'old man', Luo had changed his address at Sanbica's request.

"The enemy will find this place soon enough if you plan to confront them, you better be quick about it," the black cat said.

Luo didn’t respond to the black cat, instead tossing the last poisonous fruit into his mouth, and looked at Sanbica, asking, "How's your recovery?"

The self-defense technique used by Sanbica in prison had severe side effects, one of which was a very slow recovery rate of potential aura.

"No problems," Sanbica whispered softly.

"That's good."

Luo picked up his long sword, turning the blade towards Sanbica, who understood and placed both hands on the blade. Nen surged, and the blade gradually took on a dark green hue.

This poison-coating measure drastically changed the appearance of the True Master blade to a dark green color, with rust spots visible, resembling the pattern of a venomous snake.

Spending the barely recovered Nen in one go left Sanbica feeling exhausted. Given her current condition, she was incredibly fragile.

Luo retracted his sword, looking at the slightly gasping Sanbica, "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine," Sanbica replied, lifting her head with a smile.

"Mm."

Luo nodded, stood up from the hay, and walked towards the cave's rocky exit.

"Black cat, keep Sanbica safe."

Standing in front of the rock face, Luo looked back at the black cat.

"Do I need you to tell me that?" the black cat raised its paw, pointing to the silver pattern on its forehead.

"Luo, be careful," Sanbica said anxiously.

Luo smiled at Sanbica and then used his abilities to cut through the rock wall, making his way outside.

The tall mountain stood out prominently in the dense forest.

After exiting the cave, Luo sealed the cut entrance so that it left no trace of tampering.

He then emerged from behind a jutting rock on the mountain wall, slowly making his way down the steep slope.

The carpet search method was slow and crude, but it was thorough enough to root out any hidden individuals.

Under such a method, picking off enemies one by one was difficult, as pulling at one thread could unravel the whole.

Luo looked up at the cloudless night sky, where the moon, as large as a millstone, unabashedly shone its light.

"Too bright."

Luo murmured, wishing for more clouds to momentarily obscure the moon. Despite the dense canopy, moonlight still penetrated the gaps and fell between the trees.

"Can only take it one step at a time."

Luo glanced at the dark green True Master. The blade was now a manifestation of Sanbica's Nen-infused virus, feeding on his Nen to propagate and survive.

Luo could use 【In】 to hide his own Nen aura but not that of Sanbica's. Thus, the virus-coated True Master could indeed kill an enemy beast in one strike but could also reveal Luo's location.

His campaign of picking off enemies one by one thus began.

In the night forest, tall figures stirred among the trees.

At midnight, many poisonous creatures came out, and upon encountering uninvited guests, they viciously attacked.

However, these creatures, formidable enough to frighten ordinary hunters, could not even scratch the skin of these intruders, instead meeting their own demise.

Hidden in a tree, Luo watched through the faint moonlight filtering through the leaves, observing the man-made beasts killing other creatures.

"They use Nen, but their methods are simplistic."

Luo observed a creature below—a robust, human-headed pig-like beast, its purple-blue body covered with layers of thick skin.

A swarm of poisonous bees had attacked this beast.

Their meter-long stingers couldn't penetrate its skin, many breaking off instead.

Within a minute, dozens of dog-sized poisonous bees were slaughtered clean.

Luo, hidden in the tree, witnessed the whole scene, not surprised by the defensive capabilities of the pig-bodied beast.

This was his first target!

He waited patiently in the tree for the pig-bodied beast to come within range.

As it did, Luo leapt from the tree, slashing downward at the beast.

Ssh!

With a soft sound, the pig-bodied beast was silently bisected as it walked.

After a successful strike, Luo did not look back but dashed into the shadows to find his next target.

His strike could easily cleave through the beast's defenses, causing no real pain or physical harm. However, the real killer was the mixed virus coating Sanbica had applied to the blade.

As the bisected body fell to the ground, the pig-bodied beast only then realized what had happened.

Struggling on the ground, it tried to alert its kin but found itself unable to make a sound, its body becoming heavier and heavier.

On the leaf-covered ground, the purple-blue giant pig slowly turned a dark green color.

Luo knew the mixed virus on the blade was lethal, so after a successful strike, he immediately sought his next target.

However, he was unaware that these man-made beasts were under control, and their handler was that man in the white lab coat.

If he had known this, Luo would have realized that once a controlled target died, the handler would immediately be alerted.

As it happened, the pig-bodied beast's violent viral infection, along with the unconcealed Nen, enhanced the effect, quickly showing signs of life force exhaustion.

"In that direction…"

Dove suddenly looked in a particular direction, promptly rallying nearby beasts to encircle it.

Five minutes later, two more beasts perished, yet Luo remained uncaptured.

Dove and his companions arrived at the scene of the beasts' deaths, finding them killed in the same manner—bisected by a blade, but the cause of death was viral infection!

In less than ten minutes, three precious man-made soldier beasts had fallen.

Once again, Dove felt the troublesome extent of Luo's capabilities.
