Chapter 246

Ling Chunann exchanged a few words with Yun Zehan, and then, with a wave of a senior cultivator's hand, the gate of the trial was opened. "I wish all the disciples good luck in achieving good results. Please go ahead."

The disciples immediately diverted their attention and rushed inside. Ling Chunann glanced at Yun Zehan, "Senior brother, aren’t you in a hurry to enter?"

Yun Zehan smiled, "Sooner or later, it’s all the same." Seeing that almost everyone had gone, he said to Ling Chunann, "Let’s go."

Ling Chunann looked towards Zhang Zhifeng, "Senior brother Qingyun, let’s go in."

Zhang Zhifeng took a few steps forward when the trial gate opened but then stopped, seemingly lost in thought and startled when Ling Chunann called out to him, "Ah, yes, junior brother, let’s go."

The scene before Ling Chunann suddenly changed to a dense forest with soft fallen leaves underfoot, seemingly just after a rain, with moisture in the air and droplets falling from the leaves.

Ling Chunann caught a droplet, the cool sensation felt utterly real. "098, do you know the principle behind the creation of these small spaces?"

098 was momentarily stumped. In its experience across the cultivation world, hosts were always in a rush to seize resources and complete tasks upon entering a secret realm, hardly anyone bothered to study the origins of these realms.

Unsurprisingly, 098 faltered. Ling Chunann observed for a moment longer before moving on.

Seeing Ling Chunann not dwell on the question, 098 breathed a sigh of relief, then became curious about the space’s principles. It went to search the data but was disappointed. Although it had access to numerous resources on creating spatial products, none explained how to allow creatures to live freely within them.

After sharing the findings with Ling Chunann, who nodded understandingly, 098 was asked about the protagonist's location. "Host, the male lead is five kilometers to your east, in a gorge. He has met the female supporting character and is heading towards a nearby token. I suggest heading west, where a token lies in a lake ten kilometers away."

As soon as 098 finished speaking, Ling Chunann turned and headed west.

098 was puzzled; the host actually followed its advice this time!

Ling Chunann spoke, "098, did you think I always intentionally argue with you?"

098 hurriedly replied, "No, host. You always choose the optimal route."

Ling Chunann nodded, "Good to know."

Just a few steps later, Ling Chunann stopped again.

098 warned, "Host, there's someone ahead."

"Aah!!" A scream followed 098's warning. Was the beast in the trial ground that terrifying? "Do you want to go check it out?"

Ling Chunann initially continued but then stopped, "Almost forgot we're being monitored. Let’s go take a look."

098 was silent.

"Don’t be afraid, junior sister. It’s just a small snake. I’ll chase it away," a tall young man stood in front of a girl, pale-faced, trying to comfort her.

A gigantic green snake, large enough to swallow a person whole, with golden pupils full of hostility towards the intruders, hissed coldly, sending shivers down one’s spine.

Qing Chun couldn’t determine the snake’s cultivation level but knew it was higher than his and Qing Yuan’s, both at the fifth level of Qi training. They wouldn’t stand a chance in a direct fight. He decided, "Junior sister, when I tell you to run, you must run."

Ling Chunann stopped before some bushes, intending to push them aside, when suddenly the bushes shook.

"Be careful, host!"

Instinctively, Ling Chunann sidestepped, and someone fell where he had just been standing.

"Are you alright?" Ling Chunann asked.

Qing Yuan, disheveled, got up and seeing Ling Chunann in his direct disciple robe, pleaded urgently, "Senior brother, please save Qing Chun, I beg you!"

"Where is he? I’ll go take a look."

"That way." Qing Yuan pointed.

"Rest here for a moment, don’t worry, I’m on it." Ling Chunann reassured her, then quickly headed in the direction Qing Yuan pointed.

Seeing Ling Chunann’s disappearing figure, Qing Yuan collapsed to the ground, her legs giving out. She then realized the senior brother was Elder Yun Su’s disciple. She remembered him looking less than ten years old when she first joined. She hadn't paid attention earlier, but he seemed even shorter than her now. Could he really defeat that giant snake?

Worrying more, Qing Yuan stood up and stumbled back the way they came.

Meanwhile, Qing Chun was trapped by the snake’s tail, despairing as the snake’s mouth approached, its foul breath already in

his nostrils. He was sure he was going to die.

Just as he braced for impact, he closed his eyes, but felt no pain. After a moment, he opened his eyes to find the snake still there and quickly closed them again. Still feeling no pain, he opened his eyes once more and was startled to see a face close to his.

Ling Chunann: "..." Was he that scary-looking?

098: "Pfft!"

Qing Chun then realized the snake that had trapped him was motionless, with a sword stabbed into its vital spot, and a handsome young boy stood nearby, obviously Ling Chunann, "Qing, Qing Lan senior brother."

"Junior brother Qing Chun, are you alright?" Ling Chunann asked with concern.

"No, no problem, thank you, Qing Lan senior brother, for saving my life." Qing Chun swallowed, still scared, then astonished. It had happened in a blink; how had Ling Chunann pierced the snake’s vital spot so quickly? That snake was at least at the sixth level of Qi training and was particularly cunning, never exposing its vital spot. To kill it in one strike required being at least two realms higher. How high was Ling Chunann’s cultivation level?

"No need to thank me," Ling Chunann said. "Junior brother Qing Chun, aren’t you coming out?"

"Oh, right." Qing Chun, lost in thought, realized he was still entangled and quickly struggled free. Then he paused, his gaze fixed on the sword still stuck in the snake.

Ling Chunann approached to pull out the sword. "Is there a problem?"

"No." Qing Chun shook his head rapidly. "How come you are here, Qing Lan senior brother?"

"I ran into junior sister Qing Yuan. She asked me to save you," Ling Chunann explained. "I’m glad you’re safe; otherwise, I wouldn’t know how to face her."

Just then, Qing Yuan’s voice came from behind, "S-senior brother." Her eyes wide, her face, though dirty and scratched, showed relief upon seeing Qing Chun alive, bursting into tears, "Wuwuwu, senior brother, I’m so glad you’re alright."

"Junior sister, don’t cry. I’m fine," Qing Chun hurried to console her, grateful to Qing Lan for the rescue. "Otherwise, I might not have survived."

"Junior sister, you’re injured. Let me help you with that."

Ling Chunann had no issues with the couple showing affection in front of him. He turned his attention to the snake’s corpse, then to a tree nearby.

Leaping to the tree, he found a large hole in its trunk, housing a colorful large egg.

"This should taste pretty good," Ling Chunann mused.

098: "...Host, it's about to hatch."

"Oh." Ling Chunann sounded disappointed, then stopped paying attention to the egg, instead searching the tree hole.

"Host, what are you looking for?" 098 was puzzled, as the original text didn’t mention anything about this snake.

Ling Chunann then pulled out a small, unremarkable gray-black wooden token from the snake nest.

"???" A token here too? 098 was shocked, having missed it.

Disappointed for only a moment, 098 quickly recovered, excitedly announcing, "Host, it’s hatching!"

Indeed, the egg that had been intact now cracked open.

Ling Chunann hummed but didn’t interfere, holding the token and jumping down from the tree, looking at the two, now bandaged, "Are you resting here a bit longer or leaving now?"

"Let’s go," Qing Chun said.

Qing Yuan, realizing Ling Chunann was still there, blushed, unable to look at him.

"Which way are you heading, Qing Lan senior brother?" Qing Chun asked.

"West," Ling Chunann said. "And you?"

"We are too," Qing Chun responded. "How about we go together?"

"Sure."

The three of them proceeded together, Ling Chunann leading, with Qing Chun and Qing Yuan following.

"Senior brother, was it really Qing Lan senior brother who saved you?" Qing Yuan whispered.

"Of course," Qing Chun replied, glancing at her.

"But that snake was at least at the seventh level of Qi training. Together, we couldn’t have killed it. Did he use some magical treasure?" Qing Yuan doubted.

"There was no magical treasure." Qing Chun thought back to the scene, his expression growing complicated, finally saying, "Qing Lan senior brother is more powerful than you think."

Qing Yuan remained skeptical, but seeing Qing Chun reluctant to discuss further, she stopped pressing.

Qing Chun had initially thought Ling Chunann’s easy victory over the snake was due to a magical treasure. However, noticing the sword when Ling Chunann pulled it out, he saw it was just an ordinary sword, not even a low-level magical instrument, merely a mortal tool that could channel Qi.

This meant Ling Chunann had killed the snake with his cultivation, an almost unthinkable feat. How advanced must his cultivation be?
