Chapter 143

"Given that you treated me to a grand meal, ask away," Marui said as he wiped his mouth and belched.

Carlot looked at him with disdain but held back his words, "That roommate from the 173rd star system you mentioned before, what kind of person is he?"

"You're surprisingly curious. Don't tell me you've taken a fancy to him, tsk tsk," Marui took a sip of his juice, his expression teasing. Seeing Carlot getting annoyed, he continued, "Ah, don't mention it. My roommate is quite popular in class now, many alphas show interest in him. Every day when I return to the dorm, I see lots of flowers and gifts; he truly has many admirers. It's not strange for you to get involved, but I advise you not to set your sights on him."

"Who's setting their sights on him?" Carlot's face turned red, whether from anger or embarrassment, "At least tell me why."

"Well, although he's my roommate, I don't know him well. He's always been mysterious, sometimes not returning for the night, and I have no idea what he's up to." Marui lowered his voice as he spoke, covering his mouth as if afraid of being overheard, "Let me tell you a secret; I've smelled the scent of an omega's pheromones on him once."

Seeing Carlot's disbelief, Marui continued, "Although I'm a beta and not particularly sensitive to pheromones, I can still distinguish the scent of an omega in heat. When he's not back, he's definitely up to no good with some omega."

Carlot frowned, "Has he ever mentioned knowing Yu Yichen? Or does he have any other names?"

Marui thought hard for a moment, then shook his head, "I haven't heard anything about that. He never talks to me much. At first, I used to ask where he'd been, but every time I asked, he'd dodge the question or give me evasive answers. Eventually, I got tired of talking to him; he's got a terrible temper. What? Did Ah Chen say something?"

"Nevermind, it's getting late. You should head back."

"As if I'm at your beck and call. But since you've treated me to a meal, I'll let it go this time. Really weird," Marui grumbled as he stood up to leave. Just as he reached the door, he turned back, "Oh, right, a reminder. That sophomore from the Braun family, you know, right? He seems to have a good relationship with my roommate."

Carlot nodded, "Got it, thanks."

Even Marui was clueless; there must be some hidden story. Remembering Ling Chunann's pale face when he left, Carlot's impression of Xiaolin plummeted even further.

"Second male lead's favorability +5%, current favorability at 95%."

It took a while for Carlot to come back to his senses after Marui had left, before he tried contacting Ling Chunann again.

"What's up?"

Hearing the voice on the other end, Carlot breathed a sigh of relief, adjusting his tone, "Can't I contact you if there's nothing important? My grandfather says it's been a long time since he last saw you and invites you over for dinner this weekend. Hmph! If it weren't for my grandfather, I wouldn't have..."

"Okay, if there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."

Staring at the abruptly disconnected communicator, Carlot: "..."

Noel, who was happily preparing dinner in the kitchen for his rare visitor, popped his head out, "Sweetheart, who was that?"

"A classmate," Ling Chunann said, "He invited me over to his house for dinner this weekend."

"Is it that kid from the Wilmore family?" Noel asked.

"Yes."

Sunday morning, Carlot personally picked up Ling Chunann from school. Upon arriving at the Wilmore residence, they received a warm welcome. The entire Wilmore family showed great enthusiasm towards Carlot's friend, a double SSS, with Mrs. Wilmore even offering to cook for them personally, and the usually stern General Wilmore was unusually pleasant.

However, before Ling Chunann could even get comfortable, the butler rushed in, whispering something in General Wilmore's ear. The General immediately stood up, apologizing to Ling Chunann with a smile, "Xiaochen, please sit for a while, I need to step out." Then he turned to Carlot with a stern face, "Carl, come with me."

Watching the father and son leave swiftly, Ling Chunann smiled silently.

As the butler came in to check, 098 quickly reported, "Host, Lord Noel has arrived, claiming it's a home visit."

Sure enough, General Wilmore soon respectfully led Noel in.

The man, facing away from the Wilmore father and son, turned to Ling Chunann with a big smile, then immediately resumed a serious demeanor to nod at General Wilmore, "General Wilmore, no need for such formality. I'm just here to inquire about your son's academic performance; no need to be so stiff."

"Yes, yes, Prince, please have a seat," General Wilmore hurriedly said.

"It's a coincidence that Xiaochen is also here," the man pretended to have just noticed Ling Chunann, "How nice."

"Hello, teacher. Since you're here to inquire about Carlot's studies with General Wilmore, you two can chat. Carlot and I will go find Grandfather Wilmore."

After greeting General Wilmore, Ling Chunann gestured to Carlot, who quickly caught on, "Father, Teacher Noel, we'll be leaving you to it." Then he led Ling Chunann away.

Noel: "..."

After leaving the living room, Carlot let out a sigh of relief, patting his chest, "That scared me. Hey, Ah Chen, do you know why Teacher Noel would come to my house?"

"He said he's concerned about your studies, so it's a home visit," Ling Chunann said.

"But why would he suddenly come for a home visit? I've never heard of him visiting any student's home before," Carlot was almost incoherent, "I haven't done anything wrong, have I? No, I haven't done anything out of line since starting school."

"Don't overthink it. Maybe it's because you're doing well that he came for a visit," Ling Chunann patted Carlot's shoulder, "Didn't you say you'd take me to see Grandfather Wilmore?"

By then, Carlot finally snapped back to reality, then realized in panic that he had been too excited about Ling Chunann's visit to remember the excuse he made up; his grandfather was still at the Imperial Library working, "I, my grandfather had to rush out this morning for something urgent. Let me show you around my house instead."

Without exposing Carlot's lie, Ling Chunann nodded, "That would be wonderful."

Just then, another voice joined in, "Perfect, I haven't had the chance to tour the Wilmore residence either. How about you include me as well, Carlot?"

"Tea, Teacher," Carlot stuttered in the presence of his idol.

"Hmm, your father invited me to stay for lunch, and it's hard to decline such hospitality. I have some academic matters to discuss with you, so I decided to stay," Noel said amiably, though his gaze remained on Ling Chunann, seeing no displeasure on his face, he felt encouraged, "It's perfect, your house has a mecha room; we can have a mecha duel."

With school having started just two months ago, the freshmen were far from being trained in mecha piloting, so the mention of a mecha duel excited even Ling Chunann, not to mention Carlot, who had been a mecha fanatic since childhood.

Noel had previously gifted Ling Chunann a mecha, and although he had practiced on the training ground below his dormitory, he had never participated in combat. So far, Ling Chunann had only fought in mechas within the virtual training grounds of the Star Network.

The Wilmore family, being a military family of the empire, naturally had a mecha room that no educational institution like the Imperial Academy could match, equipped with a gravity field specially designed for novice mecha pilots.

Noel surveyed the training ground and nodded, "Not bad, truly worthy of the Wilmore family's training ground, fully equipped."

Hearing this, Carlot's eyes shone with pride.

With three mechas in the training ground, Noel said to them, "You two pick, the remaining one is mine. Your task is to beat me."

As a war god renowned across the starry skies, Noel wasn't bragging. After choosing their mechas, Ling Chunann and Carlot attacked him together, coordinating from afar and close up, but they posed no threat to Noel. Half an hour later, Carlot, exhausted, lost his fighting ability and withdrew from the battle.

Now, only Noel and Ling Chunann remained in the training ground.

Despite it being his first real combat, Ling Chunann wasn't clumsy. After Carlot withdrew, he and Noel continued to fight evenly matched.

The two tacitly avoided using any weapons. Ling Chunann's martial arts moves were all personally taught by the man, so he was especially familiar with his combat routines.

Carlot, watching from the side, was dumbfounded. Even when General Wilmore returned after handling official matters, he remained seated on the ground, eyes glued to the duo in the arena.

"What's happening?" General Wilmore approached to ask.

"Fa, Father," Carlot opened his mouth, then pointed to the arena, "Ah, Ah Chen and Teacher Noel."

In the end, Ling Chunann surrendered, three hours after the duel had begun.

The expressions of the father and son spectating were strikingly similar, both wide-eyed and speechless, unsure how long they had been that way.

Ling Chunann, still slightly unsteady as he disembarked from the mecha, was steadied by a pair of hands. The man's face was sweaty but not at all disheveled, rather adding a touch of sexiness. Ling Chunann stared at his face, dazed, before smiling at him.

"If you want to learn, I can teach you," the man whispered in his ear.

"Sure," Ling Chunann responded, then realized he had been seduced by the man's allure.
